Sign-ups for the Doom Multiplayer Alpha are now live. The Overview for this alpha on the Bethesda game website says, “The DOOM Multiplayer Closed Alpha is a series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world consumer environment. It is not the Beta (offered with Wolfenstein®: The New Order™ pre-order), a demo, or representative of the final game.” It also says that this alpha will only be testing in English while the beta and full version will be available in multiple languages.

While no date has been listed for the start of the Doom Multiplayer Alpha, Bethesda has detailed exactly what it will include when it releases. One 6 V 6 multiplayer map will be available titled “Heat Wave.” This is an industrial-themed map that will have tight corridors as well as small chambers that will all link to a central open area of the map. There will also be two main power-ups called the “Revenant” and the “Gauss Cannon” that according to the website will “provide devastating firepower that can turn the tide or ensure victory.” The Revenant is a powerful demon equipped with a jet pack and dual rocket launchers while the Gauss Cannon is a high-powered weapon that can see enemies through walls.

The Doom Multiplayer Alpha will also have a limited arsenal of weapons and two equipment items available in the complete game. The six weapons listed are the Vortex Rifle, Super Shotgun, Repeater, Rocket Launcher, Static Cannon and Plasma Rifle with two equipment items including a personal teleporter and frag grenades. These can be used in both standard and customized loadouts.

This Alpha will only be open to individuals who bought or pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order on or before May 26th, 2014. If you bought a physical copy of the game the code should be in the game box which you purchased. If you purchased the game digitally through the Xbox or Playstation store the code is tied to your user account. Are you excited to try out the Doom Multiplayer Alpha? If so, let us know in the comments below and we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
