During Act 2 in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can revisit the Arlathan Forest to complete some side quests, such as The Magic of the Ancients. When you enter the Jagged Ruins area, you can stumble on a strange magical artifact. Of course, Rook is a curious individual and will try to fix the mechanism. You must find three crystals to charge up the artifact; luckily, they are all nearby. The first two are easy to grab, but you may have trouble reaching the last one since it is on a floating platform.
How To Complete The Magic of the Ancients Quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Obtaining the first energy crystal in The Magic of the Ancients quest is easy since you only need to follow the path upwards. I recommend exploring the area since you can find a treasure chest on top of a tall rock. You will see stairs to your left, but ignore that for now and head to the right. At the end of this path, you can find the energy crystal and ask Bellara to help you fix it.
You can also read the Book of Ritual text that will hint about the artifact’s true nature. It seems another person tinkered with the mechanism and planned to use it as part of an unknown ritual.
After obtaining the energy from the first crystal, you can head up the stairs to reach the second one. On your way, you will encounter a broken device near a tree person. Order Bellara to fix it since you need to use this mechanism later.
Then, you can use the Zipline to reach the other rock platform. Here, you will find the second energy crystal in The Magic of the Ancients quest. At the end of this area, you can discover a laser device. If you point the laser to the receiver on the western side, you can create a bridge to the Mystical Tower. I suggest visiting it to unlock the fast travel point there.
To grab the last energy crystal in The Magic of the Ancients quest, you need to point the laser at the previously broken device. This will create a bridge to the floating platform containing the third crystal. You can also find a treasure chest containing a longbow for Bellara. There is also a Memento on the table and a Ripped Page on the ground.
Once you have fixed all the energy crystals, you can return to the artifact to repair it. The device will start to glow purple, and a ritual circle made of blood will appear on the ground. It seems the artifact is used to send a body across the Fade. Seeing bad signs around this ritual, Rook decides to avoid messing with it further.
