Oh, Vermouth, the capital city, the land of opportunities. The one place where, as soon as you put a foot inside, NPCs start asking you for help. Yes, it can get overwhelming, but many of the missions here have a long-term payoff. One of them is The Ornate Box quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. What seems like the first quest with an actual choice that can affect the game’s narrative ends up being a mission that sets up your relationship with a character and can even help you should you reach the game’s true ending.
How To Complete The Ornate Box Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The Ornate Box quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 sort of begins when you start and finish the Medicament Predicament quest in Melve. You need to buy or craft a fruit roborant for a girl, and after doing so, she sets off to Vermouth all by herself. Once you reach the capital, you’ll encounter the girl and her grandfather, who will thank you for the help and give you a discount. Here is where you can start working your way to complete this quest.
After a while, a kid with a fancy hat will run past you, followed by guards. Here, you can tell the guards where the kid is hiding or keep it to yourself. Don’t tell them where the youngling is. This will start the quest and let you learn more about a key character in the game.
Buying The Ornate Box for Sven
After a while, Sven, who is the kid who was being chased, will ask you for help to get an Ornate Box from the girl’s grandfather’s stall. If you purchased it with the discount, keep it in your inventory and hand it to Sven. Do not put anything inside the box. Sven will be happy to tell you to return in a few days for a reward.
Here is where the quest becomes a waiting game. You can explore the world, tackle other quests, or just wait around at the inn for time to pass. You have to return to Sven at least three times to see the conclusion of the mission. Through its course, you’ll learn Sven is Dia’s son. Dia is the lady who placed the fake Arisen on the throne. If you help Sven and return to the capital each time he asks you to; he’ll help you infiltrate the castle faster and get information that is key to the main story. Furthermore, he’ll give you the Courtly Outfit, which you need for the Masquerade, and another side quest at the Border Town.
True Ending Spoilers
It seems that The Ornate Box quest affects the ending, too, even if it’s a bit. When you need to evacuate Vermouth’s people, you must convince Dia and Sven to leave with you. The only way to do this is by giving The Ornate Box to Sven and grabbing it from the queen’s chambers. You then must take it to Sven for him to see what’s inside and go with his mother so they can both leave the city.
To summarize, this is what you must do:
- Reach Vermouth and wait for the guards to chase Sven.
- Don’t tell the guards where Sven is hiding.
- Buy The Ornate Box.
- Give the item to Sven when he asks you to.
- Return every time to the capital’s fountain and talk with Sven.
As you can see, The Ornate Box quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2, while simple, can affect the game’s story a lot. Since we helped Sven, we can’t confirm what would happen if you rat on the poor prince, but we imagine it won’t be pretty for you or helpful for the Arisen. So, don’t hesitate to do a good deed for this noble boy; in the end, the payoff is worth it.
