Dredgen Bael Will Solve the Villain Drought of Destiny 2

The curtain rises

Today, we finally got to see the launch trailer for Destiny 2: Renegades, and yes, it is hype village all the way. Besides the many callbacks to Star Wars, such as a weapon looking like the Death Star, some lines straight out of Revenge of the Sith, and all the other things that fit a galaxy far, far away, there was yet another one that, beyond making us feel excited, made us feel hopeful. Dredgen Bael seems to be the new baddie in Renegades, and he might finally end the villain drought that started in The Edge of Fate.

Behind every evil galactic empire is an evil leader, and for Destiny 2: Renegades, we have Dredgen Bael. Look, we won’t give a whole lore rundown here, but a Dredgen is basically a Guardian who embraced the dark, which, well, is quite fitting for the Imperium coming to The Lawless Frontier.

The reason we’re delving too much into the new villain is that if there was something, or rather, someone lacking from The Edge of Fate, it was a big baddie. Now, many will argue that The Edge of Fate was a build-up for this new era of Destiny 2, and they are right. However, despite how great the narrative was, it lacked this “Witness” type of factor to make us see the looming danger that would eventually threaten our Guardians.

With Dredgen Bael, however, we now have a proper villain, and one with a lot of power at that. We all got to see the trailer and how the Imperium is no joke. Even if he doesn’t appear a lot of the time during the trailer, the few scenes he has are terrific and show the sheer power of this villainous character. The fact that Aleks Le voices him also does wonders.

We’re still a few days away from seeing just how evil this character is, but judging by the early looks, we’re about to face someone dangerous and who will stick around for this new era, because we wouldn’t mind another epic last fight with someone who’s at the same caliber as the Witness.
