The trailer has officially been released for Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard, and Simon Helberg’s new musical drama, Annette. Co-written and directed by French director Leos Caraz, the movie tells the story of Henry McHenry, a stand-up comedian, and his wife, Ann DelGreco, a world-famous singer.
The two live together in contemporary Los Angeles in what seems to be total bliss until the birth of their first child, Annette, completely changes their lives. The child, born with a unique gift, takes their glamorous life in a new direction.
This first full trailer was just released and announced this morning. Annette will hopefully be opening the 74th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, on July 6, 2021. However, due to the large international infection rates of Covid-19, the event may or may not take place. UGC Distribution will be releasing the movie in France, while the film will be distributed by Amazon Studios in the US.
With the film being said to be over 95% singing, we are surely in for a treat. Leo Carax was also the director of 2012’s Holy Motors, which did extremely well internationally. This is to be Carax’s English-language debut. Annette is said to be the number one most anticipated foreign film of the year.
The band Sparks is creating an original soundtrack for the film alongside music producer Marius de Vries (known for this work in Bohemian Rhapsody and La La Land). Sparks is an American pop and rock duo that will have a heavy influence on the film. The band was founded by Ron and Russell Mael in 1971.
Annette has had multiple setbacks along the way, but the highly-anticipated musical has been filmed in locations across the world, including Lost Angeles, Brussels, Bruges, and several places across Germany. Filming began in August 2019, and production closed in November of 2019. The trailer certainly looks interesting, and with such a talented cast, we’re sure that it will do well.
