We have our first look at Dune: Part Two, as the first trailer has been released today (seen below). This gives us a look at the adaption of the second half of the novel by Frank Herbert. The footage shows returning stars like Timotheé Chalamet and newcomers Florence Pugh.
Less than a sequel and more of a continuation, the trailer for Dune: Part Two gives a taste of what director Denis Villeneuve called at CinemaCon 2023 an “action-packed epic war movie.” We see Paul Atreides (Chalamet) with his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Fergusson), and the local people of Arrakis, the Fremen (Zendaya, Javier Bardem), fight back against the Harkonnen. It shows the suspicions people have that Paul is alive while we see what he is planning with the Fremen. Epic shots of aircraft fleets flying and giant worm riding show the upcoming film’s scale.
Dune: Part Two Trailer Teases Epic Finale
The upcoming film will have plenty of cast members returning from the first part and new faces to complete the story. Alongside Chalamet, Zendaya, Fergusson, and Bardem, we will see the return of Josh Brolin, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Newcomers with Pugh include Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux.
While the trailer for Dune: Part Two sets up the returning cast, the crew stays the same to round out the final half of the classic novel. Villeneuve directed and co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts. The Blade Runner 2049 director produces with Patrick McCormick, Tanya Lapointe, Cale Boyter, and Jessica Derhammer. Spaihts executive produces with Herbert W. Gains, Joshua Grode, John Harrison, Brian Herbert, Kim Herbert, Bryon Merritt, Richard P. Rubinstein, and Thomas Tull.
The first film was a big hit for Warner Bros. It won six Oscars out of ten nominations. Despite the impact of COVID on the theater business and having availability on HBO Max, it grossed $402 million. Now, the second film is in a better place as the box office may not be what it was in 2019, but it has improved in the pandemic era.
The Dune: Part Two trailer gears up the marketing machine leading up to its November 3 release date.
