One of the biggest sequels of the year is building up the hype. Dune is coming back to select IMAX screenings ahead of the release of Part Two on March 1. It will also feature a sneak peek at the anticipated sequel. You can see the first part of the Timothée Chalamet-led epic again on the largest screen on January 24 at 7 p.m.
There are about 50 screenings across the United States that will give you a chance to see Dune in IMAX. Some cities have multiple screenings, like Los Angeles and New York, but most will have one theater playing the 2021 film.
Dune Returns to IMAX With a Sneak Peek at Part Two
For director Denis Villeneuve, the format is ideal. To the Associated Press, he called it the “future of cinema.” He has been largely against streaming, particularly for spectacle films like his sci-fi epic. When it comes to viewers, he said, “The audience wants to see something that they cannot have at home.”
The next film will be more like a war movie after all the setup and betrayal from the first installment. The second half of the story will also lean into its scale in terms of formatting. It will have IMAX screenings, but it will also have 70mm IMAX versions. The difference is a sharper, higher resolution with a larger aspect ratio.
If you get to see Dune in IMAX, whether it is your first time or a rewatch, it follows Chalamet as Paul Atreides, who comes to the planet of Arrakis with his family. After a betrayal from another family, he must go into hiding with his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), to plan out their next move. It also stars Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista. The second film will see new additions with Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and more.
