EA Originals’ Tales of Kenzera: ZAU Announced At The Game Awards 2023

While grieving the loss of someone you love is never easy, the cherished memories of the late individual can live on, even within a gameplay experience. Such is the tale of Zau, the Shaman of Kenzera, who seeks to bring his father back from the grasp of death. Announced at The Game Awards 2023, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is a new IP under EA Originals, telling a fantasy story in parallel with the real-life experience of Abubakar Salim. Known as the voice of Bayek in Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Abu wishes to honor his father’s passing through the interactive medium of an action-adventure platformer.

Inspired by the cultural folklore of the Bantu, a group of people in Africa, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is an action-packed, metroidvania-style platformer that offers engaging battles in gorgeously vibrant 2.5D locales. The Shaman protagonist ZAU can wield cosmic powers with the Sun and Moon masks, both of which offer different types of elemental abilities for combat. For instance, the Moon mask can manipulate time and freeze your foes, while the Sun Mask will set your enemies ablaze.

While the gameplay is certainly the highlight of Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, it is evident that Abu wants the game to also offer moments of strong emotion, with Nainita Desai creating the expressive and enchanting soundtrack.
