Cursed with a constant hunger for Deathroot, Gurranq serves as the Beast Clergyman of the Bestial Sanctum in Elden Ring, and Tarnished must collect Deathroot for this feral monster to complete his quest. To get started, the protagonist should speak with D, Hunter of the Dead, east of Saintsbridge in North Limgrave. After learning about Deathroot and exhausting his dialogue, continue eastward to Summonwater Village and defeat the Tibia Mariner haunting the ruins. Once the Field Boss is dead, speak with D again before traveling to the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid. Tarnished can use the portal behind the Third Church of Marika as transportation.
How To Complete Gurranq’s Quest In Elden Ring
After meeting with Gurranq and starting his quest in Elden Ring, teleport to the Roundtable Hold and speak with D for the final time. From now on, Tarnished pilgrims will need to locate and collect nine Deathroots. Each one must be delivered and fed to Gurranq, who will reward the protagonist with a new item for every root.
Upon giving Gurranq the fourth Deathroot, he will become hostile once the player reloads the area. To quell his rage, Tarnished must diminish by a specific amount before he submits and goes back to normal. Those having trouble subduing the Beast Clergyman are recommended to aggro the Black Blade Kindred and use it as a “live,” high-damage weapon. Alternatively, use HP-draining abilities like Night Maiden’s Mist or Rotten Breath and wait until Gurranq has been suppressed.
Once he’s received the last Deathroot, Gurranq will reward the player with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and vanish, leaving the Bestial Sanctum forever. However, Tarnished will reencounter him in Crumbling Farum Azula as the area’s final boss, Malekith the Black Blade. If Elden Ring players have completed Gurranq’s quest before this event, his dialogue will be different than if they met him for the first time. He will be saddened by the protagonist’s betrayal but will still commit to protecting Destined Death.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
