The Mountaintops of the Giants is a late-game region in Elden Ring that Tarnished travelers will explore during the main campaign. The province is separated into two distinct sections. The east side is simply called the Mountaintops of the Giants: East and serves as the region’s main area that adventurers must pass through to progress the story. On the other hand, the western half is referred to as the Consecrated Snowfield, a place that serves as the pathway to the hidden optional Legacy Dungeon of Miquella’s Haligtree. Nevertheless, this western side can only be unlocked once the player has access to the eastern half.
How to Unlock the Mountaintops of the Giants in Elden Ring
To get to the Mountaintops of the Giants in Elden Ring, Tarnished must first defeat Morgott, the Omen King of Leyndell, Royal Capital. Afterward, Melina will give the protagonist the Rold Medallion, which can be used to activate the Grand Lift of Rold to access the east half of the next mountainous region.
Beating Morgott is the primary prerequisite to unlock the Mountaintops of the Giants region in Elden Ring, yet the process doesn’t simply end there. After the boss fight is over, Tarnished must first attempt to enter the Erdtree and then return to Site of Grace in the arena. Melina will speak with the protagonist, giving them the Rold Medallion. From here, the next step is getting to the Grand Lift of Rold.
Fast travel to the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace. Go across the wall to the building in the south and take the lift down. Go north to the central road and exit out the large door in the east. Continue on the path to an elevator that will take the player to the Capital Outskirts. Pass the guards to reach an even larger lift that goes down to the Forbidden Lands.
The snowy pathway is linear and will lead Tarnished to the Grand Lift of Rold. However, before accessing the lift, the player must face the Black Blade Kindred in front of the entrance. Once the boss has been defeated, ride the lift to get to the Mountaintops of the Giants in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
