New information about the massively anticipated Elden Ring was revealed today in the form of a tweet announcing the game’s character classes. In anticipation of a closed beta that will be going live next week, FromSoftware gave fans a taste of the new characters – lovingly known as “The Tarnished” – and they’ve all got that signature FromSoftware charm. While fans were also recently treated to some gameplay footage, this is the first time we’ve had a chance to get a look at these characters up-close. So let’s take a closer look!

Both the Warrior and Enchanted Knight look formidable, so much so that some fans have already declared their allegiance to the latter. The Prophet certainly doesn’t look out of place when considering the multitude of odd and intriguing characters that can be found in the Dark Souls universe, but if I had to choose one of them to fight I would probably pick on the guy with a bowl haircut and wheel stuck around his neck. Just saying.

The Champion and Bloody Wolf, on the other hand,  look like they mean business. The Bloody Wolf was also the character class featured most prominently in the recent gameplay footage, so fans have been able to learn more about his playstyle. There are, of course, many questions that have yet to be answered. For instance: what makes him so bloody, and is there anything particularly wolfy about him? You’ll just have to wait and see.

Slated for a late-February 2022 release, Elden Ring will be available on a wide variety of platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Hype is building by the day: if the new announcements and gameplay footage aren’t enough to whet your appetite, then you might want to take a look at the premium and collector’s editions of the game, which are already available for preorder. Just make sure you don’t make the same mistake the Prophet did, and save enough of your money for a decent haircut.
