Getting a superhero role is one of the biggest things an actor can do today, but it isn’t for everyone. Euphoria star Jacob Elordi spoke up about why he did not audition for Superman: Legacy. The film ended up casting David Corenswet (Pearl) as the Man of Steel and Abigail Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The film also stars a slew of other actors to fill in the superhero holes in this new universe run by James Gunn.

Euphoria Star Jacob Elordi Thought the Superman: Legacy Role Would Be ‘Too Dark’

In an interview with GQ, the star talked about the offer to read for the leading role. It would have been a major step as he has the trajectory in his career with Euphoria and the upcoming Priscilla. The interview steered toward what would be too dark of a role, as Nate in Euphoria started in a dark place and went darker as the show progressed. For the rising star, it was the Man of Steel.

Well, they asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.

It is not just Superman, as Jacob Elordi has a high standard for himself when taking a role. After being unsatisfied with some of his early work, he became more picky. Although he was called “pretentious,” he argued about “making money off people’s time” when you are just “knowingly feeding people sh–” was what made him draw the line for projects after The Kissing Booth movies. To him, being conscious of people’s time is an important part of his decision-making as time is people’s “most valuable thing that they have.”

Many were excited about the prospect of Jacob Elordi possibly becoming Superman after articles about the possibility popped up. Many thought, including us, that his good looks, build, and range could have made for a good Clark Kent. The role ended up with Corenswet, who looks to check all the boxes to hopefully satisfy fans wanting a good Superman movie.

Superman: Legacy is set to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
