Pikmin 4 has brought a breath of fresh air to the Pikmin series. With new Pikmin, monsters, and hours of content, the latest entry promises to be fun for all fans. One of the greatest elements of Pikmin 4 is the reintroduction of all main Pikmin types to the main story. After their absence from Pikmin 3, Purple and White Pikmin have returned to the scene. It’s great to see all Pikmin return to one place with Pikmin 4, giving players so much variety. However, despite each Pikmin having their strengths and weaknesses, some are bound to be stronger than others. Here are our picks for every Pikmin type ranked from weakest to strongest.
10. Blue Pikmin
First up, the weakest Pikmin of the series has to be the Blue Pikmin. While the ability to travel in water is helpful, the power has been overshadowed by many other mechanics. Especially in Pikmin 4, with Oatchi’s ability to swim and Ice Pikmin’s ability to freeze water, there is less of a reason than ever to use Blue Pikmin. This is especially sad since these Pikmin have been in the game since the first Pikmin.
9. Winged Pikmin
For the next strongest pick, we have the Winged Pikmin from Pikmin 3. Like Blue Pikmin, the Winged Pikmin’s ability to fly is only helpful in niche scenarios. Besides that, the Pikmin also boasts some of the weaker combat capabilities out of all Pikmin types. Although they’re extremely cute, Winged Pikmin don’t offer enough to warrant a spot on your Pikmin team.
8. White Pikmin
White Pikmin from Pikmin 2 is too niche to be broadly helpful, like the other weakest entries. These Pikmin have poison capabilities excellent in combat but only come in handy after they are eaten. This helps make up for their loss, but losing them in the first place isn’t great. Their ability to see buried treasure is also very niche, though their increased speed is a decent plus.
7. Glow Pikmin
Next, Glow Pikmin are one of the more unique of all Pikmin types that are limited by the time of day. Glow Pikmin are helpful during the new night expeditions of Pikmin 4. With the ability to form a massive projectile that stuns monsters, these Pikmin can be an advantage in combat. However, these Pikmin can’t be any higher on this list since they only come out at night.
6. Red Pikmin
Regarding versatility, the Red Pikmin is a jack of all trades. They deal good damage, have reasonable throw distance, and provide a solid baseline for all other Pikmin. Additionally, their immunity to fire helps them deal with some typically difficult enemies, like the Fiery Bulblax in Pikmin 2 and 4. Though they have no glaring weaknesses, they don’t have anything too unique to help them stand out besides a niche fire immunity.
5. Rock Pikmin
Rock Pikmin is one of the strongest Pikmin in the game in terms of combat. Originating in Pikmin 3, Rock Pikmin can be thrown like a projectile to shatter glass or deal damage. Like Purple Pikmin, this ability will always be helpful when players need to deal some quick bursts of damage. When a lot of damage in the game surrounds Pikmin latching on and pummeling enemies, the Rock Pikmin are a unique addition among all Pikmin types.
4. Purple Pikmin
Similar to the rocky variant, we have the Purple Pikmin from Pikmin 2. These strong creatures are highly versatile. They can lift more than your average Pikmin, deal damage when thrown like Rock Pikmin, and can stun enemies. This makes them some of the best fighters in Pikmin 2. Overall, these Pikmin are great to have at all times.
3. Ice Pikmin
Ice Pikmin are the newest addition to Pikmin 4 and are one of the strongest of all Pikmin types. The Ice Pikmin can freeze enemies, making some bosses and combat encounters a breeze. Additionally, their ability to freeze bodies of water is super helpful when transporting objects over water.
2. Yellow Pikmin
Out of all the Pikmin types, Yellow Pikmin are arguably the most versatile. Since Pikmin 1, these Pikmin have had so many unique abilities and traits that are always helpful. This includes being thrown higher, immunity to electricity, and the ability to carry bomb rocks in the first game. These guys have gotten much of the fans’ love, leaving Blue and Red Pikmin behind.
1. Bulbmin
Finally, our pick for the strongest Pikmin of all the Pikmin types is the Bulbmin. These bizarre Pikmin from the second game are immune to all hazards, making them incredibly versatile. Though weaker in combat, their increased immunity makes them excellent for almost every fight. Sadly, they are restricted to caves in Pikmin 2, though besides that, they are the best Pikmin in the game.
