The Ice storm that devastated most of the country is still having long-term side effects today. Power outages, poor roads, and major disruptions to everyday life continue. In Tennessee, this is no different. The state wasn’t exactly prepared for the sub-zero temperatures and inches of ice that did what they did, and heartbreaking stories are pouring in from the Nashville community. One such story involves a small local business and its insurance firm, which allegedly denied coverage, leaving the business owners without any money and costing them everything.
In a sad, somber video shared to the mildlyinfuriating Reddit page, a woman can be seen sobbing as she details her experience with her small plant business and State Farm’s decision to ultimately not pay out anything, leaving her entire life, essentially ruined. This business, Lawrence & Clark Cacti Co., based in Nashville, Tennessee, was devastated when its inventory was destroyed by bad weather and its insurance claims fell on deaf ears. This is what their owner had to say.
I don’t know where to go from here. We’ve lost over 100k in inventory, we’ve lost our income from not having sellable goods, and now we’re losing hope.
I am not one to give up, anyone who knows me knows how hard I fight for everything and for the people that I love. I am going to fight this, I am going to try to push through, but this is me asking you for help and I really don’t want to put that burden on you, but I need your help now.

They said we were covered all last week, and then decided today that they’re going to do NOTHING.
This led to a lot of folks being upset and taking their side, which, alongside their GoFundMe, has seen a rousing outpouring of community support.

“The video poster needs a lawyer because the legal definition of spoiled is in regard to food specifically. These cacti are not for eating so they can genuinely not be considered spoiled due to cold damage. Really awful how insurance companies do everything to avoid paying”

They’ve now raised 49k with community support, and we are still waiting to see what insurance giant State Farm will do under pressure to make good on its small Nashville business.
