TLC is breaking new ground on reality television with its in-depth look at the complex world of multiple-partner relationships with the new series Seeking Brother Husband. Following the success of Seeking Sister Wife, which premiered in 2018, TLC recently announced a new series, Seeking Brother Husband.
The show premiered on March 26, 2023, and introduced four polyandrous marriages to viewers. The series chronicles these families’ journeys, each at different stages of polyandry but in a similar quest to bring additional husbands into their families. TLC’s new series draws some comparisons to the network’s hit series Sister Wives, which explored the polygamous family dynamics of Kody Brown and his four wives — Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn Brown.
Although there is still serious apprehension surrounding the topic of polygamy, it is not quite as intense or controversial as polyandry. For many women, the disparity reinforces the argument that society weighs women on different scales than men regarding their life choices. However, Seeking Brother Husband star Elisa is determined to show viewers that both worlds are similar. In the trailer for the new show, Elise said:
“There’s definitely a double standard when a female has multiple partners. It’s, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s such a slut. She sleeps around.”
She continues:
“They assume multiple male partners, it’s just about sex. That’s definitely not it.”
After getting an up-close look at the world of polygamy on TLC’s Sister Wives for over a decade, fans would be curious to find out just how similar the family dynamics are when the tables turn in not just one but four polyandrous marriages.
Seeking Brother Husband Teases Lots of Fun
While Seeking Brother Husband is based on the same premise as Sister Wives and Seeking Sister Wife, it is still quite different from the two. However, this will not be the network’s first show about polyandry. TLC first forayed into polyandry in 2017 with Brother Husbands. The show followed the lives of Amanda Stone, her first husband Chad, and her second husband Jeremy — along with their five children. Nevertheless, Seeking Brother Husband promises new insight into the world of polyandry. In one of the preview clips for the series, one of the wives, Kenya Kilolo Stone, explains her definition of polyandry. She says:
“Polyandry is the practice of one woman having multiple husbands, but those husbands cannot have any other partners.”
The clip also shows one of the stars, Elisa, discussing the unfair criticisms women who practice polyandry get compared to their polygamous male counterparts. The ending part of the trailer shows the cast having uncomfortable conversations, including pushback and judgment from their families and arguments over house hunting.
Meet The Cast
TLC’s new series features four interesting couples with different family dynamics. Here is a little look at the cast of Seeking Brother Husband.
Kenya, Carl, and Tiger
Kenya and Carl are Houston residents and connect on a philosophical level. The two have been married for 26 years and share three grown-up children. Kenya’s second husband, Tiger, meets her emotional and physical needs, but after a decade, Kenya has her heart set on a new adventure. Will she find a third husband? And how will Carl and Tiger feel about another “brother husband?”
Elisa and Mike
Los Angeles residents Elisa and Mike may be newlyweds, but they have a long dating history. However, Elisa has an unquenched thirst for multiple husbands and is ready for a lifestyle change. Mike struggles with jealousy but is willing to support his wife’s interest.
Kim, Dustin, and Vinson
Kim and Dustin have been married for 11 years and live in Asheville, North Carolina, with their first “brother husband,” Vinson. The trio has a great relationship, but Kim’s desire to introduce another “brother husband” might upset that balance, with Vinson needing more time to be ready to welcome another addition to the family.
Chara, Patrick, and Noble
Atlanta residents Chara and Patrick have been together for 13 years. Although they drifted apart for some time, they still chose to stay together due to their emotional bond. The couple decided to bring in another partner to fulfill Chara’s needs, and that’s when Noble came into the picture. Noble tilts toward living the single- man’s lifestyle, but Chara is now ready to start a family. However, Chara has to decide which “brother husband” would be her child’s biological father.
So much more drama awaits fans over the following weeks as the season finally kicks off. Hopefully, the show can enjoy as much success as the other similar shows on TLC’s roster.
