It’s time for the guild to get back together because the much-beloved anime Fairy Tail is getting a sequel series. The Fairy Tail sequel anime was announced by creator Hiro Mashima during the “Hiro Mashima Fan Meeting”, a six-hour-long stream full of Fairy Tail-related news. It can be seen in its entirety here. The sequel series will follow the events of the spin-off manga, 100 Year Quest, which began in 2018.
However, other than knowing it is in the works, there wasn’t much more announced. There is no news of what studio will bring this story to life. During Fairy Tail’s initial run A-1 Pictures, CloverWorks, Satelight, and Bridge all worked on the anime at some point, so they may be contenders.
For those unfamiliar with the new series, the official description for the 100 Year Quest reads as follows:
Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Erza, and the whole Fairy Tail guild are back in action! And they’ve decided to tackle the “100 Years Quest” – a job no one’s dared take on since the founding of the guild more than a century ago. A mysterious town, a baffling spirit, a ghastly new enemy…and a brand new continent to explore. When you’re with real friends, the adventures never stop!”
The Fairy Tail anime has over 300 episodes that came to an end in 2019. The original manga has 63 volumes, but the series continued in Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest. At the moment, there are nine volumes in this manga, and it is ongoing. As of this writing, there is no release window for the Fairy Tail sequel.
