Many fans online expressed their dissatisfaction after Alabama country singer Ella Langley dethroned Mariah Carey’s song as the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history.

According to PEOPLE, country singer Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has surpassed Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard Hot 100 history. The milestone came on September 22, after Langley’s song spent 23 weeks at No. 1. Carey’s Christmas classic previously held the record with 22 weeks at the top, a position it had maintained since its release in 1994.

While Carey’s song was released decades ago, Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” came out in October 2025 as the lead single from her album Dandelion. The song also marked Langley’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Choosin’ Texas” has also earned three major awards, winning two Academy of Country Music Awards and one American Music Award. The song has also received three nominations for the upcoming CMA Awards, including Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Music Video of the Year.

Some fans were unhappy to see “Choosin’ Texas” take the record from Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which had held the title for years. Carey’s song has become closely associated with Christmas and has repeatedly returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 during the holiday season, making the record particularly meaningful to many of her fans. Some also appeared disappointed that a relatively new country song had surpassed a holiday hit that had remained popular for decades, leading to negative reactions toward Langley’s achievement online.

Many fans were left upset after Alabama country singer Ella Langley’s hit song dethroned Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” from its record as the longest-running No. 1 song. Some believed “Choosin’ Texas” did not deserve to hold the record for so long. “We are living in the worst timeline,” one person wrote. Another person said, “this does not sit right with me AT ALL.”

More people expressed their shock over the new record holder, with one person asking, “No because who is actually listening to this?!?!” Another person said, “This is worse than the hunger games dystopia omg.” Others appeared to associate Langley with MAGA, with one commenter writing, “ella you are a maga fraud. No one will remember this song.”

The news of Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” dethroning Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” highlighted the strong negative reactions from some fans who dislike the country song. Many also expressed their belief that Carey’s holiday classic should have remained the record holder.
