The first images of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange have been released. He can be seen sporting the same iconic facial hair and costume as the Sorcerer Supreme who has been an important character in the Marvel universe.
Doctor strange will be appearing on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. The promotional photos were taken during principle photography on the movie which will not wrap up filming until March 2016.
In regards to wearing the suit for the first time, the British actor had this to say to EW.
“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
The film is due for release in November of 2016 and will follow the story of Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange. After a car accident injures his hands, the once brilliant yet egotistical doctor embarks on a path of enlightenment. During this personal journey he encounters the ancient one and with training and guidance, he is able to embrace his future title as the Sorcerer Supreme.
The movie will be directed by Scott Derrickson and features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, and Mads Mikkelsen.
