Draw your revolver, it is time to hit the Wild West. Kevin Costner finally has his four-part Western epic galloping to its release as the first trailer for Horizon: An American Saga has been released (seen below). The film marks his first time directing in 20 years. The Yellowstone star co-wrote the script of the first chapter with Jon Baird.
The footage introduces us to the star’s leading character, Hayes Elllison, who must protect his family after a recent attack. The story will span 15 years of pre- and post-Civil War, exploring conflicts and expansion of the country’s Western side. The trailer also gives us a look at the rest of the cast, including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tantanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Horizon Trailer Shows How Kevin Costern’s Financial Risk Could be Worth It
Kevin Costner spoke of Horizon and its trailer today (via Variety). He wants it to be “something that stays with them [the audience] forever.” He said making the film was “by far the biggest struggle” in his career, especially when compared to other difficult projects like Dances With Wolves. In 52 days, he was able to make the film that will debut later this year, with the second chapter on the way a few months after.
With about $100 million production, it was tough as the actor/director/writer found it difficult to get anyone to finance the film. That struggle made him willing to spend his own cash to get this made as he has had the idea for about 30 years. He mortgaged his 10-acre Santa Barbara property to help finance the film.
The first film will premiere this summer on June 28. Its follow-up will be released on August 16. No word yet on what, when, or if we can expect the final two installments.
