Money is tight, finding decent work is a challenge, but one Florida mother discovered that “Now Hiring” has a different meaning for some businesses. More specifically, Muscle_mama_ on Reddit shared a post on r/recruitinghell of a Domino’s in her local area, and it displayed the sign “Now Hiring.” However, this sign could have never been further from the truth, as Muscle_mama_ was quick to discover it’s allegedly nothing more than “mandatory signage.”
Muscle_mama_ claims to have gone inside and asked the staff about available positions for new hires, to which they responded that there weren’t any. In truth, the “Now Hiring” sign meant nothing; it was just there because management required it. “This crap should be illegal. What’s the point of this?” the mother remarked in frustration. Several thousand Redditors shared in her frustration.
One Reddit user pointed out that the Domino’s hiring sign had probably been there for years. “Gives the impression the business is successful. People can’t get enough of their bread and meat things,” another added in response.
Reddit Had Mixed Opinions As to the Reasoning Behind the Fake “Now Hiring” Sign
“It absolutely should be illegal,” a third expressed in agreement with Muscle_mama_. They continued: “Businesses who lie to “look” successful shouldn’t be businesses. Also, keeping a constant hiring sign up gives the impression that management/the job can’t keep anybody, which imo gives the opposite impression.” A fourth claimed that, “Thanks to this, old people think every place in town is hurting for workers and that young people just don’t want to work.”
Muscle_mama_ noted how unemployed people are desperate for work these days, especially with the rising costs in almost every aspect of their lives. A sign like “Now Hiring” that deceitfully means nothing but isn’t taken down is “false advertising.”
On the flip side, one commenter made a solid point, noting that the sign could refer to Domino’s as a chain restaurant, meaning there may be locations hiring. Though the one within Muscle_mama_’s area in Florida is allegedly not one of those locations, the owner might have to put up the signage out of corporate obligation. Still, as a Redditor puts it: “Why put a sign that you’re hiring at a location that isn’t hiring?”
