A card vendor in Florida was approached by a man carrying some dog kennels. The fellow proceeded to offer his dogs in exchange for expensive Pokémon cards, valuing them at a staggering four figures. The vendor was nothing short of disgusted.
The bizarre and borderline disturbing moment was caught on camera by PICKLEQW33N. At the time, she was livestreaming while vending at a Card Show. The clip attached above quickly became her biggest one yet. It garnered 389,000 views, 50,000 likes, and more than 1,000 comments.
The Florida, while sitting behind her display table, noticed that some Card Show attendees had brought dogs. She was aware that even some individuals had been trying to trade dogs for Pokémon cards, completely oblivious to what she was about to witness.
Eventually, a man carrying dog kennels approached PICKLEQW33N’s table. She, excited by the dogs, gifted the man a sticker of a Snubbull, a dog Pokémon.
“It’s a Snubbull,” the vendor said. “For your French bulldogs.”
The man found the gesture moving. He, however, immediately told her that the dogs were for sale. He added, “I’ll trade them for a card.”
$4,000 Or Trade
PICKLEQW33N, who appeared to be flabbergasted and disappointed by the offer, laughed, and out of curiosity, he asked how much the French bulldogs would set her back. The man said that each French bulldog was priced at $4,000.
No transaction was made, and the Florida vendor was not amused. Then, a fellow card vendor said that the man was potentially one of the dog breeders who are looking to trade dogs for cards. PICKLEQW33N said that was unethical and wondered how breeders would know if their dogs were being handed over to a loving family or good home.
“You’re just, like, trading cardboard for a living, breathing animal,” she said.
Reactions
The video sparked many reactions, mostly from viewers who were outraged by the idea of trading dogs for collectibles. One said, “That should be illegal.” Another one commented, “Completely unethical. They should be fined.”
The backlash continued, this time aimed at dog breeders specifically. One wrote, “Breeders are disgusting. Animals aren’t currency. You shouldn’t be trading them for stocks.” Another one added, “Breeders are unethical. Period. This is just EXTRA unethical.”
Hopefully, PICKLEQW33N’s video will bring attention to the matter at hand. As many argued in the comments, dogs deserve better than being traded away for cardboard.
