She really stepped in it.

Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar blamed some of President Donald Trump’s advisers for problems surrounding his immigration enforcement policies. She warned that those advisers were “compromising his legacy” and failing to present the full picture. Her remarks drew attention because she also acknowledged that Trump alone decides whose advice he follows.

The exchange aired on CBS, where Salazar was asked who she believed was giving Trump bad counsel. She answered that “some of his advisers are compromising his legacy.”

The South Florida congresswoman said she saw it as her duty to warn the president, not attack him. She said some advisers were “just not presenting the whole picture.”

She then stressed that Trump remains responsible for deciding whom to trust inside the White House. “He is the president,” Salazar said. She told him, “Sir, look what you did, don’t squander it.”

Salazar closed by pointing again to immigration enforcement as the issue behind her warning. She did not identify a specific adviser in the exchange.

Maria Elvira Salazar’s Trump Adviser Remarks Ignite Fierce Debate

The response centered on presidential responsibility, Salazar’s own record and whether advisers should bear blame for the administration’s immigration direction.

“It’s never trump’s fault,” one user wrote.  Another questioned who ultimately chose the people surrounding the president: “Who selected these advisers compromising Trump’s legacy? And who’s keeping them on the payroll?”

Others turned to Salazar’s timing and record. “If she wasn’t up for reelection she wouldn’t be criticizing Trump’s immigration policies,” one response stated.  A separate user added, “She voted in favor of every single one of his policies.”

Some responses backed Salazar’s concern about Trump’s advisers. “Between MiGA foreign wars and H1B visa/amnesty RINO neocons – they have already done great damage to the legacy of @POTUS,” one user wrote.

Another response was more direct: “Salazar has a point.”

The political fallout surrounding Florida’s immigration debate remains unsettled. Salazar faces added scrutiny as the election approaches.
