Funimation announced early Saturday morning that it would stream the interactive anime Futsal Boys!!! The series will begin streaming on Sunday as it airs in Japan.
The multimedia project is a collaboration between Namco Arts, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Diomede’s Futsal Boys!!! Anime story. Also, Abema will stream the anime as it comes out. Funimation describes Futsal Boys!!! story as:
The game of futsal has skyrocketed to popularity. Japanese futsal player Tokinari Tennoji inspires our protagonist Haru Yamoto. As he watches his idol play, Haru joins Koyo Academy’s high school futsal team with the hopes of being like his idol. There, he finds his friends, and together they face their rivals.
The Futsal Boys!!! project includes an anime, a smartphone game, and actual futsal matches between cast members. The scheduled in-person matches also help develop the teams and the characters. At the same time as the games, the stats of the game also affect the characters and story. The catch to it all is that the results of the match affect the story of the anime and the app.

Due to unspecified reasons, the Futsal Boys!!! Anime shifted its original 2021 air date. The schedule for the in-person futsal matches had also been disrupted due to these issues. However, they have now been moved to fit the schedule for the anime. While the anime and live aspect has shifted, the smartphone game is currently available on the App Store.
The Futsal Boys!!! Anime story is credited as an original work. Mao Marita’s story also features character design artwork from different illustrators for each of the high school teams. Tomomi Ishikawa (Persona 5 the Animation) is in charge of adapting those character artworks into the final character designs. Shoji Yonemura (Fairy Tail, Pokemon, and Digimon Fusion) is credited for “story construction.” Lastly, R.O.N (FLCL Alternative, FLCL Progressive) is in charge of the music.
Currently, Futsal Boys!!! will air on Funimation on January 9th at 11 PM EST.
