In case the title of this article confused you, please, allow me to explain: GAME is a videogame retailer that is very much akin to the one you might be more familiar with, GameStop. The main difference between the two is that GameStop has a decent worldwide presence whereas GAME seems to be mostly located within the U.K. And as of 8 January 2020, they have started to take socks on trades for in-store credit.
According to the press release, in Britain, over 25% of people say that socks are their least sought after Christmas present, which, as a poor American who has come to really respect any pair of well-fitting clothes, I get my scruffy little hands-on, sounds pretty high to me. Still, it does seem like quite a few British ends up with unwanted foot warmers over the holidays, and if you find yourself to be in such a position, bring your pairs into GAME at the time of your next visit.
This whole promotion has been dubbed the New Year Sock Swap, and unlike how some media outlets have stated, they are only accepting new and unworn pairs of socks. Once you have handed them over to GAME, each pair of donated socks will be given to one of a variety of U.K. homeless shelters where they will be much appreciated, and you will receive a nifty £2 on top of a trade-in of games and an extra £15 for a trade-in of tablets, phones, or consoles.
It’s not much, but every pair of socks helps as they are the number one most requested item in homeless shelters across the U.K. So if you are near a GAME store and want to help out plus get a little extra bang for your buck, bring in any unwanted but still fresh Christmas socks. Help make the world a warmer place by getting involved in this lovely little holiday charity event.
