Trisha Yearwood and her husband, Garth Brooks, are facing serious fan backlash following their recent performance during the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th anniversary show. The pair took the stage to pay tribute to late greats Tammy Wynette and George Jones with their rendition of Golden Ring.
Brooks and Yearwood took the stage to sing the classic country duet, with fans praising Trisha Yearwood’s performance. However, according to Daily Mail reports, they were not as kind regarding Garth Brooks’ performance, deeming it cringy.
Garth Brooks has faced a lot of controversy over the past several months. As previously reported in October, the Shameless hit-maker was accused of sexual assault and battery by his wife Trisha Yearwood’s former makeup artist.

The accuser, known as Jane Roe, has made some shocking and detailed accusations against the singer. She has described the alleged frightening and violent. Even though Brooks maintains his innocence, following the allegations, Brooks claims he has taken a financial hit and even lost a few gigs.
Brooks denies all accusations. However, the lawsuit has hit him like a ton of bricks, damaging his reputation with fans. In December, Garth and his legal team unsuccessfully moved to have the lawsuit dismissed.
Despite the emotional stress the singer faces, he reveals his plans to press on with his jam-packed 2025 performance schedule.
Garth Brooks Attempts To Channel George Jones During Duet With Trisha Yearwood
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were in rare form as they honored the legendary country singers. While fans took to social media to praise Yearwood, most claimed they found Brooks’s performance bizarre.
“Trisha killed it. Garth butchered it,” one fan shares on X.
“Wish Garth would have just sung the song instead of trying to impersonate George,” states another. “He is no George Jones.”
Another wrote, “They were ‘giving late-stage George and Tammy energy if you know what I mean.”
Others questioned Garth Brooks’ sobriety during the performance, suggesting he looked out of sorts. Recent reports reveal that the stress of the sexual assault accusations is taking a noticeable toll on his health and marriage.
Despite Trisha Yearwood’s vow to stand by her man, the couple allegedly remain on edge due to the lawsuit. The pair are said to be upset by all of the negative press constantly surrounding them. It’s said to be testing their relationship and even sparked rumors of a possible multi-million dollar divorce.
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood continue to face a lot of scrutiny, so much so that they are allegedly considering relocating to Ireland to get away from all the negativity.
Only time will tell if the couple can survive this controversy in one piece. If the backlash from their Opry performance is any indication, it appears they have a long road ahead of them.
