George and Amal Clooney are reportedly the latest on President Donald Trump‘s revenge list. The human rights lawyer, who has been married to the Hollywood icon for ten years, might face a ban from the United States thanks to new sanctions.
Per The Financial Times, last week, the UK Foreign Office issued warnings to several senior British lawyers, informing them that they are at risk of sanctions by the Trump administration. The legal team, which includes Amal, is being “cautioned” because of the legal advice they provided to the International Criminal Court in a war crimes case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Recall that in May 2024, the British lawyer was among the team that recommended the prosecution of Netanyahu and other Israeli politicians for war crimes against Palestine. “As a human rights lawyer, I will never accept that one child’s life has less value than another’s. I do not accept that any conflict should be beyond the reach of the law,” Amal said in her statement.
Unfortunately, her activism for Palestine is now backfiring. In February, President Trump issued an executive order imposing sanctions on ICC prosecutor Karim Khan. He also warned that further measures could follow “on those responsible for the ICC’s transgressions.” Those affected by the sanctions will face travel restrictions, suspending them from entering the United States. Their assets and properties will also be frozen.
60-day Deadline Passed In George & Amal Clooney Sanction Case

Following Trump’s executive order, he gave a 60-day deadline for a subsequent internal recommendation on who else should face those sanctions. April 7, 2025, marked the end of the deadline.
No further sanctions or names have been announced since, but many fear that the Clooneys might be affected. Although George and Amal’s primary residence is in the South of France, they have a second home in New York City. The power couple and their 7-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, recently relocated back to the US as Clooney’s Broadway debut in “Good Night and Good Luck” kickstarted in April. The show will run until June 1st.
Although nothing is set in stone about the Clooney’s future in America, the news of a possible ban has sparked mixed reactions from fans. While some believe Trump is doing the right thing, others think the sanction is a vengeful gesture.
“Trump doesn’t want anyone fighting for Human Rights in his country! I think that tells us the direction the USA is moving,” one fan observed.
“Trump has never been a fan of law and order. That’s why he just makes up the rules, to suit himself,” another comment read.
“He’s a sick man and is only after revenge for anyone who doesn’t agree with him,” a third remark read.
“That wife is anti-American, as is Clooney, and they live in Europe, which is great for Americans,” another user argued.
“Great news. Sanction all these terrorist supporters and deny them entry,” this commenter praised
George and Amal Clooney are yet to publicly address the rumors of a ban, but the Ocean’s Eleven star is known to always stand by his wife.
