A Karen in Georgia was caught on camera stealing and throwing away her neighbor’s doormat because it featured an illustration of a Black girl.
The neighbor shared surveillance footage online that documented the incident. In the video, the Karen can be seen standing outside her neighbor’s door before bending down to pick up the doormat in front of the entrance. According to the neighbor, she then walked away and threw the doormat down the building’s trash chute.
The neighbor also shared a photo of the stolen doormat. It featured an illustration of a Black girl alongside the words, “But did you call first?” According to the neighbor, she believed that the design on the doormat was the reason the Karen took it and threw it away. The video ended with the woman walking back into her apartment after disposing of the doormat.
In a post on Threads, the neighbor shared the surveillance footage and described the woman as her “Caucasian neighbor.” In the caption, she alleged that the woman stole her doormat and threw it down the building’s trash chute. According to the neighbor, the woman later told her she did it because “she didn’t like it.” The neighbor also claimed the woman said that no one else on their floor had a doormat like that.
According to the neighbor’s post, she gave the Karen three days to retrieve the doormat from the trash before taking further action. “She had approx 3 days to dumpster dive for it, or I was gonna show her something,” she wrote. The video quickly gained traction online and sparked a broader conversation, with many viewers alleging that the incident was motivated by racism.
Viewers Criticize Georgia Karen After Stealing Doormat
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized the Georgia Karen over the incident, arguing that she should have left her neighbor’s property alone. “She’s a worthless human being with no purpose on this planet. There is so much white trash like that in America, we’re filthy with white trash mate,” one person wrote. Another commenter encouraged the neighbor to pursue legal options, saying, “You gotta do what they try to do to us. File a police report. Every single time. Small claims court. Tie them up with their own legal chains.”
Others believed the incident was motivated by racism. “Racism is pure mental illness mixed with a bunch of psychopath,” one person wrote. Another commenter urged the neighbor not to retaliate, saying, “Probably should just report her to the rental place or something. Surely theft and hate crimes violate their rental agreement. No reason to risk their own living situation by retaliating, unless they are 100% sure they can get away with it haha.”
The video sparked a conversation about incidents that many viewers perceived as being motivated by racial bias and the impact such experiences can have on Black people in their daily lives. It also led to broader discussions about how someone should respond when a neighbor allegedly steals or disposes of their personal property, with many arguing that the matter should be handled through legal or property management channels rather than retaliation.
