Students at a tech school in Georgia are showing just how much they care about their fellow classmate, Justice James, by making the whole school aware of their protest. After Justice had been found hanged at Turner Job Corps, the students used their voices to sound the alarm.
TikTok user _Potatoe_tot, Niya, and a student of Turner Job Corps, shared a video of protesters forming together inside the tech school. Niya says she and another student found Justice and tried to help him, but it had been too late. Then, the next day, she and all other student employees were forced to return to their trades. The head director allegedly told them that “life goes on” and said nothing about Justice in the days following the incident.
Niya says that, after his death, students and staff have continued to make insensitive comments about Justice’s passing. She believes his passing has been “pushed under the rug” and so many other students and employees agree.
Because of this, Niya and others gathered in protest against Turner Job Corps, saying “they do not seem to care for their students.” During the protest, they were told by an employee that protesting is making a scene and that “acting out gonna make this place hot” and call police to the area.
It’s a little too late for that, now that Albany Police are investigating the death, believing it to be “suspicious.” However, the police aren’t looking into it as a homicide, which Niya and others disagree with, as well as hope their protesting will help Justice’s family get answers.
The Internet reacts to protests at Turner Job Corps
Numerous TikTok users shared their support and condolescnes in the comment section of Niya’s video. “That’s my brother…” reads one of the top comments from a user claiming to be Justice’s brother.
One commenter encouraged the students at Turner Job Corps to keep it going. “Stay loud youth! You are the change that matters.” Niya gave the comment a Like.
Another commenter tried to guess why some of the staff at the tech school were indifferent to Justice’s death, attributing it to a “lack of empathy.”
Several commenters urged Niya to get in touch with news. To this, Niya commented back, saying “They donna hear about it now!”
According to Niya in the caption of her video, “THE STUDENT THAT SUPPOSEDLY KILLED HIM HAS BEEN WALKUNG AROUND FREELY…I don’t feel safe here…” Justice James’s death is still being investigated at this time.
