Despite a relatively linear experience, the realms of God of War: Ragnarök are packed with hidden stories, collectibles, and secrets for players to discover, such as the Mystical Heirloom. According to the item’s in-game description, this Heirloom “seems important but does not have any practical application in combat.” If Kratos activates the Mystical Heirloom when equipped, he will vigorously smack it against his wrist. The animation is undoubtedly cool to look at, but as its description stated, Kratos will receive no benefits or combat buffs from this Relic. Accordingly, many players are likely curious about what purpose this mysterious artifact holds.
Finding & Using the Mystical Heirloom in God of War: Ragnarök
To get the Mystical Heirloom in God of War: Ragnarök, players must complete the tenth quest of the main story, “Forging Destiny,” during which Kratos will receive the Draupnir Spear as a primary weapon. Next, search for a cracked wall southwest of Tyr’s Temple in Midgard. Use the spear on the wall to enter a secret location with the Heirloom.

As mentioned above, the description of the Mystical Heirloom in God of War: Ragnarök does no favors in telling players how the item can be used. However, a vague solution is actually in the info provided within the equipment menu — “awakens something dormant.” Based on findings by IGN, this “something” refers to several stone trolls that can be found in three realms across the world. If Kratos uses the Mystical Heirloom near these trolls, they will awaken from their slumber, triggering a miniboss fight.
The first troll can be found at The Derelict Outpost in Midgard, standing near the entrance to the ruins. The second is located near the southwestern corner of The Forbidden Sands in Alfheim, and the third is a troll duo that can be found within Noatun’s Garden of Vanaheim. Each of these trolls drops a variety of valuable materials, but the resource exclusive to these enemies is the Slumber Stone. These stones can be taken to the Huldra brothers to craft the Steinbjorn Armor Set, a formidable collection of equipment that grants some of the highest Defence stats in the game. Those playing higher difficulties will undoubtedly find great use for this gear.
God of War: Ragnarok is available exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
