Gotham‘s third season had one or two rocky episodes. But, for the most part, it’s been pretty solid. I’d dare even say it contained some of the best episodes in the show’s run thus far. Unfortunately, one of those rocky episodes I mentioned was the mid-season finale, Beware The Green-Eyed Monster. For a season that built up so much momentum and hype, Beware The Green-Eyed Monster felt like a huge step in the wrong direction. However, that may change with the upcoming mid-season premiere episode, Mad City: Ghosts, when a familiar face returns to Gotham. Let’s take a look.

That’s right folks, Jerome Valeska is back in town. Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) was a villain from season one, who became a fan favorite in season two. The way he acted made everyone think that this character would one day be The Joker. However, the show shut down those rumors right quick when Galavan killed Jerome early in season two. As a result, many fans ended up outraged by this and who could blame them? Monaghan’s portrayal was perfect. It felt like a crime in itself not to make him The Joker. He was the closest we got to another Mark Hamill. You know that movie where Jared Leto dressed up like a juggalo? I didn’t buy that. Monaghan was the real deal.
But it seems as if Mad City: Ghosts is pulling a fast one bringing this character back to us. Maybe Indian Hill had something to do with him being alive as well. After all, we all thought Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) was dead until she showed up at the end of season two. I just hope they don’t get rid of him after one episode. Also, according to IMDB, it seems Mad City: Ghosts will also introduce us to James Gordon’s (Ben Mackenzie) uncle. I would assume that was his uncle at the end of Red Queen speaking to Kathryn (Leslie Hendrix). Whatever the case, this upcoming episode looks to provide plenty of mystery and intrigue for loyal viewers. I just hope the episode can fill the void left by Beware The Green-Eyed Monster.
We can all stop speculating come January 16th when Gotham‘s newest episode, Mad City: Ghosts, premieres on FOX.
