The CW has canceled Gotham Knights after one season. Deadline reports that Gotham Knights was one of three shows in development limbo. The other two shows were Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming. Both of those shows have been renewed, but Gotham Knights has not. This will leave Superman & Lois as the last remaining DC series on The CW, and the only one with any connection to the Arrowverse, though that essentially ended with that last season of The Flash. The current season of Gotham Knights still has two episodes left, both of which will air this month.
Gotham Knights Not Renewed by The CW
It’s not surprising that Gotham Knights has been canceled. While the show was a respectable rating performer, its Rotten Tomatoes scores with critics and audiences are quite low. The show has been criticized for not living up to other DC shows. It’s also been criticized for having weak acting and an uninteresting protagonist in Turner Hayes. This is all likely part of why Gotham Knights has been canceled so quickly.
The CW has undergone numerous changes since it went under the new ownership of Nexstar Media. The network wants to expand beyond its 18-34 demographic that it garnered with DC shows and teen dramas like Riverdale and One Tree Hill. That’s why they are bringing on more adult-targeted shows and why they will be airing other programs like The Chosen. With all of these changes, only a handful of their original shows could be expected to continue. While its ratings weren’t bad, Gotham Knights still couldn’t do enough to get another season.
