Nowadays, Rockstar Games is one of those companies that takes one step forward and three steps back. On the one hand, you have some profitable weekly updates that made up for the lackluster mini-heist we just got. On the other hand, the company is increasing the price of GTA Online‘s Plus membership out of the blue. This console-exclusive subscription will now be more expensive while not offering a lot of benefits for players. And since the fan base is quite vocal about these things, you can imagine how everyone reacted to this news.
GTA Online Increases the Price of Its Plus Subscription to $7.99
While one might think a two-dollar price increase for GTA Online‘s Plus service isn’t a big deal, it is. Lately, the subscription doesn’t offer anything relevant other than the “free” GTA$, which you can actually get by playing the game. A few members were happy about the service’s latest approach, but this latest announcement killed all excitement. I have to agree with the player base. I am mainly a PC player, so I don’t enjoy these benefits, but even if I played on a console, I wouldn’t put cash on this when I can make more money for free.
Think about it: from now to August, Rockstar will give GTA+ members one million GTA$. You can get that by doing a few Special Cargo deliveries or farming the Cayo Perico heist. Furthermore, one million isn’t a lot in this game; it’s not even enough for a good vehicle or property. Ultimately, you’re better off grinding with friends or in a private session at your own pace.
What worries most of the fans is the franchise’s future. If we see this price increase for a decade-old live service game, what can we expect for GTA 6? We all know Grand Theft Auto‘s next installment will be one of the biggest titles of the decade, and Rockstar Games will milk it as hard as GTA 5. Hopefully, the company will listen to player feedback, but we know that’s futile by now.
