Prior to Microsoft’s July press conference, a new teaser trailer has emerged on the official Halo Twitter account. With the release of the Xbox Series X less than six months away, many have suspected that July’s conference would focus around first part titles. In May, Microsoft showed off a few third-party titles coming to the Xbox Series X including the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Despite the May press conference being a bit of a disappointment, many expect that Microsoft will come out swinging in July 2020 event; Microsoft must match or exceed Sony’s June press conference and Halo Infinite is just the start.
At E3 2018, Halo Infinite made its world premiere. Many were excited to see the return of Master Chief but still felt betrayed by 343 Studios for the disastrous Halo 5. Despite the feeling of betrayal, many are eager to see what is in store for Halo Infinite. In the teaser trailer, a familiar voice can be heard over a deciphered message. For those who are familiar with the Halo Wars 2 storyline, the voice should seem familiar. Halo Wars 2 takes place after the events of Halo 5 and despite overcoming the Banished, the group seems to have survived.
The Banished is a splinter faction of the series antagonist Covenant. Their fighting style is considered more aggressive and ruthless than their Covenant counterparts; it seems that the Banished’s conflict with The UNSC’s Spirit of Fire will spill over into the sixth main Halo title. Halo Director Frank O’Conner has stated that Halo Infinite was developed with a new engine called Slipspace. In its E3 debut, 343 Studios claims that the original trailer was running in the new engine; if true, Atriox, Master Chief, and possibly even Spartan Locke will look fantastic.
