Is a new Harry Potter-based RPG on the way? Well, it sure looks that way considering the leaked clip that was released earlier this week. The footage has since been removed from YouTube, but you can still watch a mirror version right here.
In a low-res video file that circulated the internet just a few days ago, we can see some spectacular in-progress footage of what looks to be a new Harry Potter game. Featured in the video is a look at character customization in which you can pick from eight different wizard classes, a peek at a wonderfully realized Hogwarts, stunning creatures, and an intense combat montage.
Is this a real leak? We think so. The footage looks way too legitimate to be somebody’s pet project. This Harry Potter game is definitely coming from a big studio, we just aren’t sure which one yet. Some speculation suggests that this could be the next title from Rocksteady, but it isn’t likely. Stronger rumors point to Avalanche Software, which was recently revived by Warner Bros.
The game description, posted by Reddit user VapeThisBro (who leaked the video and was supposedly from a focus group for the game), is as follows:
Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize In the Forbidden Forrest and trouble begins [to] brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both”familiar and never before seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences.
A report from Eurogamer states that “sources with knowledge of the project” have confirmation that this game is indeed in deep development. Lizo Mzimba, a BBC News reporter, also chimed in that he had been “told this is from a yet to be announced RPG” and that possible titles included “Harry Potter Magic Awakened” and “Magic Forever”.
