There was a period where fans of both games genuinely thought that the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 would overthrow Helldivers 2. The latter saw major success from the moment it launched, prompting fans of the genre to be interested in the former. Fortunately, the Space Marine 2 director, Johan Pilstedt, decided to comment on a Reddit post within the Helldivers 2 subreddit on the topic, sharing his excitement about the fact that the games exist at all.
Space Marine 2 allows players to enjoy defending the Imperium either alone or with three additional players. Helldivers 2 is similar in gameplay style, though it is a completely different game. Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 Players Shouldn’t Be At War
The Space Marine 2 Director’s Reddit comment thanks players for returning to the fray with the release of the franchise’s sequel. In the same comment, he also goes on to say that all the two games really have in common are that players can enjoy them both. He even adds a personal anecdote about how excited he would have been as a child to have the option to play both games.
“I just wanted to pop in here and say that I think we should be greatful [sic] for getting several awesome games. I can’t even imagine how I, as a kid, would have felt to be able to play Helldivers and SM2. They are different games, but you can enjoy as many games as you want!”

It’s always refreshing to see well-known figures in the industry positively commenting on topics devised to cause controversy. He’s absolutely right; the two games are very different, and at the end of the day, you can enjoy as many games as you like.
