Tom Cruise’s 2023 Oscar absence was noticeable, eliciting questions from several people. However, Tom Cruise missed the Oscars because he was back on set for work. Find out more about this below.
Tom Cruise Missed The 2023 Oscars
Tom Cruise missed the Oscars on Sunday, and the nominated actor’s absence was noticeable.
However, ET confirmed that the Top Gun: Maverick star is back on set overseas for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning II.
Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for six Oscars. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer would have accepted the award had the film won the night’s biggest category — Best Picture.
The flick also got nominations for six other awards besides Best Picture. It was nominated for Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Film Editing, Sound, Music (Original Song), and Visual Effects. The movie eventually won the category for Sound.
Lady Gaga Performed At the 2023 Oscars
News of Tom Cruise’s 2023 Oscar absence came hours after Lady Gaga confirmed her presence at the event. Not only did the singer attend, but she also performed her Oscar-nominated Top Gun: Maverick single, Hold My Hand.
The Bloody Mary singer initially declined to perform or attend the event, but plans changed. Oscars producer Glen Weiss said Gaga was invited to perform but could not commit at the time.
The Bad Romance singer was in the middle of shooting a new movie, so she initially declined. Glen revealed that Lady Gaga didn’t feel like she could deliver a performance at the caliber that she’s used to doing.
Lady Gaga’s new movie is Joker: Folie à Deux. The flick is a sequel to 2019’s Joker, which started production at the end of 2022.
Earlier this year, actor Jay Ellis spoke with ET about the film’s massive success at the box office. He also talked about the opportunity to work with Hollywood royalty.
He explained that when they all first started working on the sequel four years ago, “We just wanted people to go see it. We just wanted to work with Tom Cruise. We just wanted to work with [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer and [director] Joe Kosinski.”
Tom Cruise’s 2023 Oscar absence is understandable. Hopefully, he will have a good time shooting his new movie.
