The HITMAN series has always been known for letting the player play their way. From the way the levels are designed to the options players are given, players are given all the options they need to plan and execute their assassination target. That freedom of choice goes to the game’s modes as well, giving players many options to work with. This only expands with the upcoming release of HITMAN 3. In a blog post on IO Interactive’s blog, the team detailed the five different modes coming to HITMAN 3 along with changes coming to each of them.

As players expected, the game’s signature Campaign mode is making a return. This time around, Agent 47 is going all around the world to take out various targets. These takedowns will lead up to the epic finale to the World of Assassination trilogy, bringing an end to this portion of Agent 47’s journey. These will be some of Agent 47’s most important targets yet, leaving a lasting impact on the world of HITMAN. The team has previously teased this mode, showing off portions of the Dubai mission. You can find that teaser above.

You can also expect some of the other classic HITMAN modes to make a return in HITMAN 3. Elusive Targets tasks players with creating and executing a plan on the fly, with little help and not a lot of time. You can expect to hear about these changes later down the line. Escalations puts you down the road of a contract, putting your skills to the test more and more with each level. Contracts Mode puts you in the sandbox, having you choose targets and how you want to eliminate them, before executing that beautifully. Of course, you’ll see Sniper Assassin return as well. This mode is now only singleplayer, having the HITMAN 2 co-op servers shut down prior to HITMAN 3’s launch.

Finally, HITMAN’s 1v1 competitive mode Ghost Mode is, unfortunately, being scrapped for HITMAN 3. With their focus on the upcoming changes to various modes, the team would rather focus on that. HITMAN 2’s Ghost Mode will shut down on August 31st, 2020. We’re sad to see it go, but hopeful that the changes will be worthwhile in HITMAN 3.

HITMAN 3

HITMAN 3 releases on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X in January of 2021. What are your thoughts on the removal of co-op and versus mode for HITMAN? Do you think the various changes will be worthwhile? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more.
