While the combat in FFVII Crisis Core is far from unlikeable, some fans of the franchise might prefer to avoid fighting for the majority of their playthrough to primarily focus on the story. The narrative of Crisis Core takes place several years before the events of the well-known Final Fantasy VII. Although the story of this prequel spinoff is less compelling to many than the original game, the backstory and lore revealed in their character’s story arcs will undoubtedly be intriguing to fans of the series. Nevertheless, the game’s combat is a feature that might be less appealing to some players, causing them to focus on participating only in mandatory battles.
Avoiding Combat in FFVII Crisis Core
To avoid combat in FFVII Crisis Core, players must keep their distance from enemies by hugging the walls of the linear pathways on the map. Typically, enemy mobs will stand guarding or patrol the central areas of the main path. They will typically pursue Zack Fair if he gets too close but won’t respond if he is near the border.

Of course, there will be moments where players have little to no room to avoid combat sequences in FFVII Crisis Core, such as in a tight hallway or narrow corridor-shaped trail. Conversely, there are many areas where users will have plenty of space to navigate Zack away from enemy units. However, sources at Pro Game Guides state that consistently avoiding fights during one’s playthrough will risk the player character being under-leveled for boss battles and other non-missable encounters.
A good way to counter being under-leveled for mandatory fights would be only to avoid combat with “trash mobs” in FFVII Crisis Core. For example, if a sizeable room has a loot crate with one or two minor enemies that grant less than substantial EXP, players can opt out from fighting and simply loot the chest. On the other hand, elite enemy battles, map exploration, and sidequests are activities in which fans are encouraged to participate for the rewards in items, gear, and EXP. This way, players will gain the required resources necessary to ensure Zack is well-equipped for battle while also avoiding unnecessary confrontations.
FFVII Crisis Core is available on PC via Steam.
