In the prologue, you come to a fight with a Mind Flayer and Commander Zhalk, but do you know how to beat Commander Zhalk in Baldur’s Gate 3? It’s not an easy fight–that’s for sure, but it’s well worth it in the end because you can pick up a great weapon to use in future battles. Commander Zhalk spawns with 105 Health, but the Mind Flayer takes his attention and some of his health away to make things easier for you. Keep reading to learn how to kill Commander Zhalk in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Commander Zhalk Fight Techniques

Beating Commander Zhalk is no easy feat, which you will likely learn as you approach the battlefield. Commander Zhalk is level 8, to begin with, and has 105 Health. He’s tough, can take some hard hits, and can dish out even harder attacks back at you. As you head into the battlefield after saving Shadowheart, be sure to fully heal yourself at one of the Restoration consoles around the Nautiloid Ship. Now, head inside.

As you approach, you will see Commander Zhalk, the Mind Flayer, and a few other lesser imps and enemies. Your primary goal is to reach the transponder before the Nautiloid crashes, which you only have 15 turns to do. However, at around turn 5, two Level 4 Cambions will enter the battlefield. The Cambions are half the level of Commander Zhalk, but they hit much harder. You must do it quickly if you plan to beat Commander Zhalk in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Our best advice is to take advantage of the Mind Flayer stunning Commander Zhalk. Any time the Mind Flayer manages to stun Commander Zhalk, you can swoop in and hit him hard, often resulting in critical hits that can considerably take his health down.

Use attacks that will hurt Commander Zhalk and Hex him and put him at a Disadvantage in the fight. Once he is Hexed, your other attack can deal much more damage, and you can put Shadowheart and Us to good use to kill Commander Zhalk.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
