The Guardian of Faith isn’t the toughest enemy in Baldur’s Gate 3, but underestimate this holy foe and you’ll end up praying for forgiveness. You’ll find this enemy in Rosymorn Monastery, and you’ll need to take him out to get the Ceremonial Battlexe. Whether it’s your first playthrough or your fifth time through Larian‘s RPG masterpiece, the Guardian of Faith can make journeying to the lower floors of Rosymorn and fetching the Blood of Lathander a challenge. Here’s how to beat the Guardian of Faith in BG3.
Guardian of Faith BG3 Rosymorn Guide
If you have any characters capable of casting Level 4 Conjuration spells, you might already know the key to beating the Guardian of Faith in BG3. That’s because this enemy is the same one you conjure using the spell of the same name. If you want to beat this enemy easily, keep your distance. As a summoned Construct, the Guardian of Faith will only attack those that enter its golden activation circle. Stay outside the Guardian’s circle and pelt the Guardian with ranged attacks, and it will fold.
As a Construct, this entity exists to protect the Ceremonial Battleaxe. Picking up that weapon will trigger the Guardian’s ire just like entering its circle, so keep your hands off the treasure until it’s dead. Bows and spells are your best friends for this fight. The Guardian of Faith possesses a passive that allows it to attack any creature that enters melee range. It’s basically a reverse Attack of Opportunity, giving the Guardian free attacks.
Alternative Strategies To Defeat the Guardian
If ranged attacks aren’t an option due to your party composition or a self-imposed challenge, there are other ways you can beat the Guardian of Faith. The first is to send summoned minions to fight the Guardian for you. Every time this enemy attacks, it deals 20 Radiant damage to itself, meaning it will eventually kill itself if you just keep throwing minions its way. It’s kind of mean to just toss your beloved pets into the meat grinder, but who are we to judge?
The second option is to slug it out in melee. Keep in mind that the Guardian of Faith cannot be disarmed and automatically counterattacks in melee thanks to its Retaliation passive. If you insist on melee, use Fighters, Barbarians, and other tanky characters to absorb as much of the damage as possible, using your more fragile characters as support. When the Guardian of Faith is dead, you’re one step closer to claiming the Blood of Lathander.
