As if the large fingercreepers weren’t scary enough, here comes Elden Ring to show us Metyr, Mother of Fingers. She’s a massive fingercreeper herself, adorned with numerous fingers that she’ll use to attack in various ways, as well as using magic. That title isn’t supposed to be cute, either; Metyr will summon fingercreepers, both big and small, to overwhelm you. Be sure to pad your stats as best you can because beating Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is no walk in the park.
Where to Find Metyr, Mother of Fingers
Finding Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is both easy and tedious. The boss herself is located under the Cathedral of Manus Metyr; however, you won’t be able to access the area until you’re nearing the end of Count Ymir’s questline. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Speak with Count Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
- Sound the bell in the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
- Sound the bell in the Finger Ruins of Dheo
- Sound the bell in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, located under Ymir’s throne.
Sound the final bell in the Finger Ruins of Miyr will teleport you to Metyr’s boss room. Unlike some of the other bosses in Shadow of the Erdtree, Metyr won’t rush you immediately. You have plenty of time to summon any Spirit Ashes you want, check gear, and so on.
How to Beat Metyr, Mother of Fingers (Moveset & Counters)
Here’s a breakdown of Metyr’s attacks in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and their counters:
- Laser Beam: Metyr uses this attack frequently if you keep her at a distance. She’ll either fire a single projectile, multiple projectiles, or hold the beam and sweep across the battlefield.
Metyr’s laser beam attack will likely be the first attack you experience as you approach her. Countering just involves some good old fashioned dodging. For the projectile, it’s a matter of timing—wait till it gets close, then zig or zag. If it’s the longer beam, you want to dodge towards the beam, not away.
- “Head” Slam: Metyr will start to rush you, readying her “head” for a ground slam. She can chain this attack three times. Metyr will leap into the air after the first attack if she’s going to chain them.
Another attack that’s fairly easy to dodge, although the timing is a little weird. She’ll telegraph the attack by raising her head and body before slamming the ground. You can dodge in either direction or simply run away as soon as you see her starting to rush you.
- Summons Fingercreepers: Metyr can summon both small and large fingercreepers. When you see her reach into her chest, that’s when you know she’s summoning fingercreepers. She can do that while on the ground, but she also has a leap attack where she rains fingercreepers on you.
Having a Spirit Ash isn’t required, but it definitely helps to soak up the fingercreepers. Otherwise, you can more or less ignore the smaller ones. However, the big fingercreepers need to be killed before you can focus on Metyr again. As for the leap attack, book it to either side of Metyr so you aren’t suddenly overwhelmed by fingercreepers.
- Magic Tremor: Metyr’s “head” glows before thrusting it into the ground. The ground in front of her will glow with magic before erupting.
There are two ways to counter this attack. You can either play it safe and stand in the areas that aren’t glowing (it’ll be very obvious) or by running straight for Metyr’s side. If you choose to be aggressive, you can get in some quick hits. Since Metyr is fairly easy to stagger, consider the latter if you’re running a melee build.
- Gravity Wells: When you get Metyr to 50% health, her tail will form a black hole and she’ll start to levitate. When it detonates, it’ll damage a large area in front of her. She can also spawn several tiny black holes and fire beams from her tail.
For the tiny black holes, keep your distance because they’ll explode. For the large gravity well attack, there’s a small window of time, just before it detonates, for you to roll towards Metyr to avoid the damage and knockback. If you can time it right, you can quickly rush Metyr for some free damage!
Should Metyr levitate and fire beams from her tail, get in close to avoid them or you can test your luck and dodge them.
- Spin Attack: Metyr starts to levitate and spin like a top, then immediately rush you.
Similar to Metyr’s head slam, her spin attack can be avoided if you start to run just as she winds up the attack. That’ll give you enough time to run outside the range of the attack.
One last thing to keep in mind when fighting Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is to stay away from her sides, except in very specific instances like after her magic tremor attack. She has so many fingers at her sides that it just isn’t worth the effort. Metyr can body slam and even rush you like fingercreepers do, each finger dealing damage.
