Viconia Devir, also known as the dark elf cleric of Shar, can be found in the House of Grief when you reach Act 3, during the companion quest Daughter of Darkness. At first, she will offer to join her and want to take Shadowheart, but if you refuse, the battle will begin immediately. Before you fight Viconia Devir in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to prepare carefully because besides her, the battlefield will be filled with other enemies. Use our tips to figure out which methods to use and win the fight.
Preparing for the Battle With Viconia Devir in Baldur’s Gate 3
The first thing you need to know before entering the battle is that Viconia Devir has many allies, which makes the battle much more difficult. She herself is not as strong as she seems, and you can defeat her pretty quickly, but a whole army of about 20 enemies will be a big obstacle on the way.
So, before we discuss each type of enemy separately, it is worth mentioning their common feature, namely radiant and necrotic damage. To minimize the damage received, we recommend using the following elixirs:
- Elixir of Radiant Resistance
- Elixir of Necrotic Resistance
- Elixir of Guileful Movement
- Elixir of Heroism
If the first three are clear and give you resistance to negative effects, then Elixirs of Heroism is an exception. It’s not as powerful as the others, but it’s a great alternative, considering that you get 10 temporary hit points and the Blessed effect.
So, when you know the good consumables for survival, you should also not forget about the team that will fight with you side by side. For this battle, we recommend choosing most of the team to be spellcasters to perform powerful ranged attacks and have the ability to control the crowd, so a suitable solution would be to use War Caster feat.
The rest of the team should focus on disorienting and destroying enemies. Here, you need to equip your characters with the best weapons and skills to finish off the enemies. In addition, it’s a good strategy to stun enemies so that they miss their turn, and you have a better chance. To make your enemies miss their turn, you can also use Grease Bottles or spells that create ice obstacles to make your opponent fall and end the action.
How to Kill Viconia Devir and Other Enemies in Baldur’s Gate 3
So, when you’re ready to go into battle, don’t rush to attack, but instead think of a good strategy to minimize your chances of defeat. The enemies that will be waiting for you can be divided into two categories, namely:
- Spellcasters: Enemies with ranged attacks and powerful magic spells. They will be a serious obstacle if you do not destroy them from the very beginning. Their main strategy will be to use Darkness on the battlefield to inflict necrotic damage on you and gain an advantage. Another nasty effect they can use is Bone Chill, which prevents your regeneration. The best tactic would be to start the fight, stun them all and kill them with powerful attacks as soon as possible. If you do this from the beginning, the second part of the fight will be much easier.
- Paladins: The second type of enemy, which is completely opposite to the first. Paladins are melee warriors, but that doesn’t mean they are weaker than spellcasters. Their main advantage will be the Smite attack, which will damage you by dozens of HP. They cooperate perfectly with spellcasters because when the first ones cover the battlefield with Darkness, the second ones will take the form of nocturne, which will further reduce your chances of survival. To defeat them, you should first deal with the spellcasters and then brighten the battlefield with a Daylight spell. This way, you can avoid their powerful form and kill them one by one.
By following this strategy, you’ll quickly deal with the enemies and can move on to the main boss. As we mentioned above, Viconia Devir in Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be a difficult enemy, but her main advantage is radiant. Never use such attacks against her because she can easily counterattack with the double damage.

At first, she will turn herself and a few other enemies into wolves, which is Shadowheart‘s main fear, so you will need to deal with her quickly to make sure she turns back into her normal form. So when you do, the best way to start is to surround the boss from the sides and take turns with powerful attacks until she dies. The best thing to do is to approach her from behind and use a powerful sneak attack.
