If you ask any FFXIV Dawntrail players about the true endgame in the MMO, they’ll answer with two things: fashion and farming gil. The latter is a complicated topic, as FFXIV has a different market depending on the server you’re on. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t play with the market board. Furthermore, if you’re not too comfortable with buying and selling items, there are a few other means to get this currency in the game.
5. Selling Bicolor Gems Items
Whenever a new expansion hits the digital shelves, it is usually a race to reach the max level. If you’re only into PvE and PvP, you can take as long as you want. However, Disciples of the Hand and Land usually take a few hours to get their crafters and gatherers to level 100. Why? Well, because that’s where the gil is. One of the easiest ways to do some gil farming in FFXIV Dawntrail is selling items you can procure with Bicolor Gems.
After doing FATEs in any of the recent expansions (Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail), you’ll get Bicolor Gems. You can use them to buy riding maps, Triple Triad Cards, and, most importantly, crafting materials. If you want to rule the market, we recommend farming bicolor gems and buying rare crafting materials with them so you can sell them on the market board at a high price.
4. Crafting High-End Combat Gear
The easiest way to make gear throughout an expansion’s lifecycle is by crafting high-end gear. Why? Let me explain. Whenever a new raid tier launches, players need to reach the required item level for it as soon as possible. Since the rarest gear is locked behind the actual raids and artifact gear is good but doesn’t have the best stats, the best way to enter a raid is by wearing crafted gear that allows you to pentameld Materia.
If you have all your crafters at a high level, we recommend you start crafting high-end gear that allows pentamelding before the new raids arrive. Given the popularity of DPS jobs in Dawntrail, the best things you can craft are Scouting and Casting armor pieces. Usually, some of these pieces sell for millions of gil on day one and usually decrease in value. However, you can make a few million if you put your gear up for sale right before the raids launch.
3. Rare Glamour
Do you remember how I said another part of the endgame of this MMO relies on fashion? Well, rare glamour items are a fantastic way to do some gil farming in FFXIV Dawntrail. Most of the time, Square Enix doesn’t release all the items players can craft in the game’s patch notes. You have to level up a job and discover the recipes to see what you can create. Usually, a few cosmetic items will sell well on the market board. This is where the gold mine is.
If you remember, in Endwalker, people went crazy for the pajama outfits. While they seem simple to craft, these items usually require ingredients you can only obtain through treasure maps. Since there is a lot of effort in getting them, you can sell these outfits at an extremely high price. Yes, I’m talking about millions. So, inspect your crafting recipes and see which cosmetic items might be attractive to other players.
2. Materia Farming
Another way to make gil in FFXIV Dawntrail, at least throughout all the expansion, is by farming Materia. I already mentioned pentamelding, but what you might not know is that doing such action requires a lot of Materia. There are many ways to get these iconic orbs, with one of the best being Hunts. If you start farming these items, you can do some bulk-selling at the market board. Trust me, they’ll sell like hot bread.
If you want to focus on specific materia, sell any of the crafting and gathering materia. Usually, Disciples of the Hand and Land need a lot of Materia to hit the right stat caps to use certain crafting macros. For combat players, you can sell almost everything but focus on the red Materia orbs, such as Savage Aim and Heavens’ Eye Materia. You can also look at the market board constantly to see the supply and demand for these orbs.
1. Roleplay Venues
I know this might seem like the strangest recommendation of all, but hear me out. There are certain servers in FFXIV where players love to roleplay. While some stick to the Adventurers’ Guild theme or even Treasure Hunters, others stick to nightclubs, coffee shops, and other venues I can’t mention because we’re a family-friendly site. However, if you’re into roleplay and don’t mind acting in certain scenarios, you could make a lot of gil in the process.
I’ve met players who’ve roleplayed as hosts or maids in certain venues, and they return with hundreds of thousands of gil. Some players like giving tips to other Warriors of Light in a roleplay manner, which is actually fantastic as it doesn’t involve a lot of effort. However, it is important to set your boundaries and always tell the other players if a situation is uncomfortable for you.
Ultimately, you can choose how to do gil farming in FFXIV Dawntrail. Whether you want to craft the rarest of gear or help at any of the many nightclub events we have in the MMO, there are many ways to get money. Also, don’t stick to only one way. Testing the waters of different methods is always good and will ensure you never get bored in this arduous process of becoming a gillionaire.
