“A Monstrous Collection 1” is part of a questline that you can complete in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This Side Adventure will task Link to take a picture of various enemies in the game. Clearing all of them will provide Link with some materials and customization options for his Horses. Let’s see how you can complete the first part of the questline, “A Monstrous Collection 1” Side Adventure, in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Remember that the “A Monstrous Collection 1” and the rest of the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom questline have to be unlocked first. Complete the “Mattison’s Independence” Side Adventure, and Hudson should be free to work on other matters. Now you can speak with Kilton at Tarrey Town to start the “A Monstrous Collection 1” Side Adventure.

Kilton wants Hudson to create a Bokoblin sculpture for his stage, but he has a hard time explaining the monster’s features. It’s up to Link to provide the photo as a reference. Thankfully, this type of enemy is a common one, and finding one shouldn’t be too hard of a task. With that in mind, completing “A Monstrous Collection 1” in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom should be a cakewalk.

There are five variations of Bokoblin: normal or Red, Blue, Black, Silver, and Stalkoblin. Since we’re unsure if a photo of Stalkoblin counts for this quest, we will list the general locations for the four Bokoblin variants below:

Bokoblin Variant Locations
Bokoblin
  • Hyrule Field
  • Central Hyrule Field
Blue Bokoblin
  • Hyrule Field
  • Eldin Canyon
Black Bokoblin
  • Gerudo Desert
  • Hyrule Ridge Depths
Silver Bokoblin
  • The Depths
  • This variant appear more often after you’ve finished the main quests.

Once you see a Bokoblin, perform the following two steps:

  1. Select the Camera from the Purah Pad by pressing the L button.
  2. Aim your Camera at the target and press the A button to capture their photos.

The photo has to be saved to your Album; otherwise, you cannot show it to Kilton. That means the photo that was already submitted to the Compendium also does not work. If you already have a Bokoblin photo in your Album, then you can safely skip this step. A valid photo should be marked with a “!” exclamation mark when you are looking at it in the Album.

After you have shown it to Kilton, the sculpture will be made, and he wants to put it on the stage. Use the Ultrahand and just place the Bokoblin sculpture randomly.

Alternatively, you can try to be creative and put it somewhere you like, your choice. Speak with Kilton or Hudson again. Completing this Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom “A Monstrous Collection 1” quest rewards you with a Monster Extract and unlocks the next part.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
