With players returning in droves to Elden Ring leading up to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, discussion has turned to the sidequests once more. FromSoftware is no stranger to character-focused questlines in their games, and the half-man, half-wolf Blaidd stands tall among them. Here is how to complete the Blaidd questline in Elden Ring!

Step 1: Howling in the Mistwood Ruins

Northeast of The First Step Site of Grace is the Mistwood, with a patch of ruins in the middle. You can hear Blaidd howling on top of the tallest structure here, so make sure you confirm the sound as a first step in his Elden Ring questline.

If you look high enough up, you might even spot him. You can find him here any time of the day.

Step 2: Report a Wolfman Sighting

Merchant Kalé

At the Church of Elleh, you can speak to Nomadic Merchant Kalé, where you can ask about the howling at Mistwood Ruins. He’ll confirm that it’s Blaidd, and if you exhaust the merchant’s dialogue, you’ll also get the Finger Snap gesture. Equip this to one of your quick slots and return to Mistwood.

Step 3: Beckon the Wolf

Once you get to Mistwood Ruins, get close enough to the building where you hear Blaidd howling and use your Finger Snap gesture. This causes Blaidd to leap to the ground, where you can speak to him and truly begin his questline in Elden Ring. Exhaust his dialogue options and double-check that you’ve talked with Kalé. Blaidd will tell you he needs to fight Darriwil.

Step 4: On the Prowl for Vengeance

There’s a strong chance many players have already fought Bloodhound Knight Darriwil with how close he is to The First Step. However, if you haven’t yet, you can go to his Evergaol and summon Blaidd to assist you. After winning the fight and you’re sent back outside, Blaidd will be standing just outside the circular structure ready to speak.

It’s here that you’ll also learn Blaidd is friends with War Counselor Iji, a troll blacksmith based at the Road to the Manor Site of Grace in northwestern Liurnia. Be sure to stop by Iji often, as he has plenty to say about Blaidd. Additionally, Iji can improve your weapons and has an interesting connection to an upcoming questline!

If you already beat Darriwil before starting this questline, Blaidd will still be here. Make sure you spoke with him at the ruins before this if he doesn’t show up!

Step 5: Joining the Pack

Note: To progress here, you must have reached Ranni’s Rise. This involves getting through Caria Manor in northern Liurnia and beating Royal Knight Loretta.

Go to the northern reaches of Liurnia past Iji to reach Caria Manor. To the northeast of this area, make your way to a fog door leading to a boss fight with Royal Knight Loretta. She is tough, but her poise can be broken, so consider heavy magic attacks or heavy melee weapons.

Once you defeat Loretta, progress past here into a lush green area littered with crystals. You’ll find three towers or ‘Rises,’ with the westernmost one being Ranni’s Rise. Here, you’ll need to ascend to the top and speak to Ranni. This initiates her questline, which is vital for Blaidd’s story in Elden Ring. Once you do, you can go back to the entrance of the Rise to see a spectral white Blaidd. Speak to him here and exhaust his dialogue options before moving on.

Step 6: Don’t Be a Lone Wolf

It’s after meeting Blaidd at Ranni’s Rise that you’ll see his questline bringing him to an impressive array of locations. You will find him next at the southeastern portion of the Siofra River map where you first reach from the Siofra River Well in Mistwood.

He’ll be standing next to a cliff here where you can speak to him.

The next step in this questline requires you to have beaten Starscourge Radahn.

Step 7: Hunting with the Pack

Next, you will find Blaidd at Redmane Castle for the Radahn Festival, where you can speak to him before fighting Radahn. Additionally, after you win, speak to Blaidd, and you’ll be told to meet him at a crater where a meteor struck.

Step 8: Digging Into the Crater

If you go to the Fort Haight Site of Grace, you can go west from there to a red-marked portion on your map where the crater is. Here, you’ll speak to Blaidd, initiating more steps in the Ranni and Alexander questline in the process. Exhaust your dialogue and get ready to travel again.

Step 9: The Wolf at the Door

Go back to the Evergaol, where you fought Darriwil, and you’ll reach the center of the circle, where you’ll hear howling. At this spot, you should get a prompt to speak to Blaidd; this will progress his questline in Elden Ring while inching to its endgame. It turns out he was imprisoned here against his will by a mutual friend, but for good reason, as you’ll soon learn.

Step 10: Truth Revealed in the Pale Moonlight

Return to Iji at the Road to the Manor Site of Grace and speak to learn the truth about Blaidd. For the sake of spoilers, this part will be kept vague, but if you’ve been paying attention, you already know things won’t go well for Blaidd in this questline. Aside from being Ranni’s born protector, Blaidd’s fate in Elden Ring is to eventually go mad.

Step 11: Putting the Dog Down

You will need to complete Ranni’s questline to access this final step. We have a solid Ranni questline guide you can follow to speed this process up!

Return to Ranni’s Rise after completing her questline, to see Blaidd standing outside, and you know what you must do. Blaidd’s been a loyal companion and an excellent conversation partner. However, he’s too far gone to be saved, so you must defeat him. However, as a reward, you’ll get Blaidd’s Royal Greatsword weapon for completing his questline in Elden Ring.

Blaidd’s story is a small part of Ranni’s vast questline and is tied to one of the game’s endings. It’s the tragedy of a follower so devoted to his stepsister he pledged and lost his sanity for the cause.
