While New London may seem cozy, the threat of Whiteout is not something that one should take lightly. After finding Oil deposits and upgrading your generator, you must face the full wrath of the icy storm for many weeks. At the end of that trial, your people agree that you need to find Winterhome in Frostpunk 2‘s Chapter 3. Regardless of your decision to side with the Stalwarts or the Pilgrims, you have to find this abandoned colony before the next Whiteout arrives.
Frostpunk 2 Chapter 3 Walkthrough
Unlike Chapter 2, which has numerous goals, Chapter 3 only has two main objectives in Frostpunk 2. First, you need to find the Winterhome ruins. Second, you must prepare for the colonization of this failed city.
The game even gives you a hint about the location of this abandoned settlement. You have to get past the Gorge and reach the Cursed Valley. There, you will find the failed city with its numerous Cores.
How To Explore The Gorge
Now, you may think that you can just send a bunch of Frostland Teams to explore the area, but you are wrong. Although the Whiteout has receded, it has caused the area to your east completely inexplorable. If you want to venture into these dangerous zones, you must upgrade your Logistics Districts.
You need to go to the Idea Tree in the Research Insitute and begin researching some ideas in the Frostland section. Here’s what you need to unlock in Chapter 3:
- Survivalists’ Headquarters
- Vanguard Logistics Bays
The Survivalists’ Headquarters is extremely important since it can decrease the threat level in all areas. You only need to construct one building in an expanded Logistic District, so you can use the extra space to build other structures. Vanguard Logistics Bays is a good option since it can increase the number of Frostland Teams you have.
How To Reach Winterhome in Chapter 3
After you have upgraded your Logistics Districts in Chapter 3, you are now ready to fully explore Frostland. Your goal is to head northeast and explore The Gorge. You need to send 20 Frostland Teams and wait for around 11 Weeks to explore this zone.
Behind it, you can discover The Cursed Valley. To map this section, you need to have 20 Frostland Teams and wait for around 12 weeks. You will then find the ruins of the Winterhome, where you can build a new colony.
At this point in Chapter 3, you can technically immediately send colonists to occupy this area. However, I don’t recommend hastily clicking that button. You want to be ready since Chapter 4 is very stressful.
What you want to do is to ensure that New London can sustain itself without your active management since you have to pay attention to Winterhome. Here are the steps you can take:
- Fill up your Stockpile Hubs
- Manage Squalor and Disease
- Explore Frostland to make resource outposts
- Build your Guard Squads
- Research Hospitals and other medicines
I recommend unlocking the Watchtowers under the Society section in the Idea Tree. This will allow you to obtain Guard Squads and help you stop rebellion. This won’t play a role in Chapter 3, but you will need it when you colonize Winterhome.
You also want to start researching Hospitals since the area in Winterhome is extremely toxic. Regardless of your chosen story path, you have to make a settlement there. Unfortunately, the gas will poison your people, so ensure you have structures that decrease Disease ready.
