How To Defeat the Cinderclad Monolith in Remnant 2: The Forgotten Kingdom

This boss is “kiln” me softly.

I never imagined a piece of pottery would be challenging, but Remnant 2 proved me wrong with its Cinderclad Monolith fight. As one of the new bosses in The Forgotten Kingdom DLC, this encounter will test players’ dodging skills and make them work on those multi-tasking abilities, too. As one of the most original boss fights in this title, we wouldn’t blame you if you died a few times before mastering all the mechanics. However, if you want to beat this foe fast, we have a few tips to help you.

Remnant 2: Cinderclad Monolith Boss Fight

Inside the Deserted Atelier area of Remnant 2, there’s a chance you might encounter the Cinderclad Monolight boss. Contrary to other enemies, this one stays in one part of the arena and sends a bunch of exploding orbs, lasers, enemies, and other shenanigans your way. Even if some feel this is an easy fight due to the boss’ lack of movement, it’ll make you move faster than when dancing Achy Breaky Heart.

First Phase

The fight’s first phase serves to help the players test the waters of this encounter. The boss stays static at all times, and this bout functions as a bullet hell where Travelers have to time their dodges right while also damaging the boss by hitting any of its blue gems. Here are the moves you can expect during this phase:

  • Advancing Projectiles: The boss will launch five rows of projectiles toward the player. They will advance in a wavy pattern and start from the boss’ body until they reach the end of the arena. The easiest way to dodge these is by waiting for the first row to launch, running to the Monolith’s body, and staying close to it.

  • Lasers: The boss will spin around while shooting lasers out of its lower section. To evade them, you must time your movements right and dodge just before the laser hits your character. This will negate all damage.

  • Ground Attack: The last move the boss will pull off is launching a few beams of light to the ground, making them explode in a + pattern. You must pay attention to where these beams launch and position yourself in a way that you aren’t hit by any. The easiest way to avoid these is by staying at the back of the arena.

Second Phase

The second phase will begin once Remnant 2‘s Cinderclad Monolith emerges from the ground and spawns an arm-like limb. It will attack three or four times by slamming it in front of the player or doing a sweep attack. These attacks hit hard, and you can die by getting hit twice. After it finishes its combo, it’ll slam itself on the ground, causing a huge shockwave that can one-shot you.

After that, the boss will open its body and reveal a crystal, which is the weak spot. Attack it with everything you’ve got to reduce the Monolith’s HP considerably. Once that’s done, the boss will repeat its first phase attacks with a few variants.

  • All three moves will happen simultaneously.
  • The beams of light on the ground will stay there longer and travel back and forth from the boss to the end of the arena, making dodging harder.
  • The projectile attack will switch its pattern between a row and a column.

The easiest way to defeat the Cinderclad Monolith in Remnant 2 is by staying at the back of the arena and shooting at its blue gems whenever they glow. If you’re in a team, it’ll be much easier, and if possible, bring a weapon with DoT modules to keep damaging the boss while dodging. Overall, it is a fun fight, and beating it rewards you with the Forge Ember material, which you can use to craft something nice back in Ward 13.
