There are times in Fallout 76 when you’ll have to suck it up and face your sleep-paralysis demons, also known as cryptids. They are some of the creepiest enemies in the Fallout lore and currently, Fallout 76 keeps adding more of these cryptids to its long list of nope. Occasionally, you need to hunt them down because the game says so. Hence, I’ve prepared a list of how to find all cryptids in Fallout 76 and their locations. This way, you can pick the least nightmarish.

[Updated May 25, 2024 โ€“ย Revised the guide and added the new cryptids along with map images]

Aliens

Best Location
You can encounter Aliens during random events, particularly the “Invaders from Beyond” event at various locations throughout Appalachia.

They’ve been a staple of the Fallout mythos ever since the first game, but they’re become surprisingly more present since Fallout 3. And in Fallout 76, you’ll practically meet them every now and then.

They’re not the best cryptids to hunt for the daily or weekly challenge though since they mostly appear during events.

Blue Devil

Best Location
You can find the Blue Devil in the Savage Divide region, particularly around the Top of the World. You can also server-hop if it’s not there.

Yup, that’s a werewolf. Sort of. It’s inspired by the actual West Virginian urban legend of the same name. Thankfully, dealing with the Blue Devil is a pretty standard affair for anything nightmare-inducing. Just kill it with fire.

Flatwoods Monster

Best Location
The Flatwoods Monster spawns randomly in various locations. Your best bet is through the “Queen of the Hunt” or “Making Sacrifices” Daily Quests.

If you’re hunting down aliens, you might also get lucky as the Flatwoods Monster can sometimes accompany them.

Beyond that, this is one elusive cryptid in Fallout 76 and you might even need to consider hunting something else that’s more accessible as a cryptid.

Grafton Monster

Best Location
Guaranteed spawn near the Charleston Trainyard area or due east of the Charleston Capitol Building. You can also encounter one just south of Hemlock Holes or “The Ol’ Westone Shuffle” Main Quest.

The Grafton Monster is thankfully more common compared to alien cryptids. It’s easy enough to spot due to its size and its grotesque disfiguration– a result of scientific hubris.

Jersey Devil

Best Location
You have to play the Atlantic City quest “Sins of the Father.” You’ll encounter the Jersey Devil during a certain point of the quest.

Thanks to the effects of radiation, what was once just an urban legend was given a true form. The Jersey Devil is a dragon-like cryptid. It’s one of the highlights of the Atlantic City update.

Mega Sloth

Best Location
They can spawn in specific areas in the Mire region. For easier hunting, however, just keep revisiting Treetops and Tanagra Town.

I had a lot of luck getting this lazy boy to spawn in Treetops. You also don’t need to worry too much as most Mega Sloths you’ll encounter aren’t hostile right away.

Some of the normal or regular variants will only attack when provoked.

Mothman

Best Location
Guaranteed Sightings in one of the labs of the Enclave Research Facility. If you want a more eventful encounter, then join the “Mothman Equinox” event.

If you’re after theatrics and atmosphere, make sure to fight or hunt this creature during the night. Its glowing red or green eyes approaching in the veil of darkness is how you’re meant to be introduced to this cryptid.

Ogua

Best Location
Event boss for the “Beasts of Burden” event accessible through the Sacramental Glade.

For a more straightforward and less cryptic cryptid, find the Ogua. It’s a conventional fight and encounter. The beast is physically imposing and soaks damage like it eats radiation. Do conserve your ammo whenever it retreats inside its shell. This turtle won’t answer anyone knocking violently.

Sheepsquatch

Best Location
Event boss for the “Free Range” event accessible through various locations such as Big Fred’s BBQ Shack, Groves Family Cabin, and Southern Belle Motel.

And we’re back to the more frightening cryptids. This time around, it’s a goat that ate too much radiation. Two will spawn in the aforementioned Free Range event, so you might want to make sure you’re not soloing it at a low level.

Snallygaster

Best Location
7x in the Flooded Trainyard. 3x at Toxic Larry’s Meat ‘n Go.

Snallygasters are some of the smaller cryptids in Fallout 76 which means they’re easy to fight and farm. This would be my go-to for cryptid hunts or daily challenges since they’re always available in the two aforementioned locations. All you have to do is fast-travel there.

You don’t want to be surrounded by these things, however. So try to tread lightly in their territory and engage them one at a time. Some of the variants deal debilitating status damage and poison.

The Beast of Beckley

Best Location
Finish the Unsolved: Death and Taxidermy side quest. The Beast of Beckley will spawn as a legendary boss.

This cryptid is on the lighter side of creepiness and it’s just an albino wolf with the notoriety of a local serial killer. It’s an old beast and it’s not as troublesome as the more random and dedicated cryptids.

Wendigo

Best Location
Join the “Colossal Problem” event. They appear in high numbers there. Otherwise, hunt down Wendigos on the road due south of Abbie’s Bunker, by the truck wrapped in vines.

Last but not least, actual human beings were turned into cryptids. Once, they were cannibals, and through some twisted mutation, they managed to assimilate the flesh and bones of their victims.

Don’t be fooled by the gangling appearance, they are troublesome even for those in Power Armor.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
