Ant Hills are practically dungeons in Grounded and one of the most dangerous among them is the notorious Fire Ant Hill. It’s quite expansive and filled with angry, spicy Fire Ants. Unlike the meek worker Red Ants, Fire Ants will attack you on sight even outside their Ant Hill. Still, this kind of risk comes with a good reward, as the Fire Ant Hill is filled with candy that you can use to augment weapons. I’ll be walking you through how to find the Fire Ant Hill in Grounded.
Fire Ant Hill Location in Grounded
Getting there is a bit difficult since the Fire Ant Hill entrance is located northeast of the map. It’s right past the Koi Pond, in the Upper Grasslands or Upper Yard. To get there, you can’t just cut through the Koi Pond (at least if you want to get there early).
- You’re going to have to go around the pond.
- Starting from the western wall of the map, look for the gap in the wall and climb through it (you might need a bomb to create that gap).
- Or you can just build stairs.
- Keep going north until you see a barbecue grill.
- Climb past the overturned barbecue grill.
- Head east until you get to the Lawnmower near the northeast edge of the Upper Yard.
- The Fire Ant Hill entrance is under the Lawnmower.
There are other ways to get to the Upper Yard and you can even just build stairs from the banks of the Koi Pond to get there. However, the fastest and least resource-intensive way is still through the spilled barbecue grill.
The Fire Ant Hill entrance is just underneath the Lawnmower. However, getting there isn’t easy. As soon as you’re past the sizzling grill, the Fire Ants will greet you right away. They’re fast, and running away from them usually doesn’t work. But do try to avoid their line of sight before you get to the Fire Ant Hill.
Tips for Fighting Fire Ants
To prepare you for this journey, I recommend the following items and gear:
- At least a Rusty Spear (preferably with a Fresh or Mint augment)
- A Shield (because Fire Ants attack fast and relentlessly)
- A Mint Staff for multiple Fire Ants
- Lots of Beefy Smoothies since it’s a long dungeon crawl
- The Ant-Annihilator Mutation
- Mother Demon Set (Broodmother armor) if possible
- Lots of snacks and drinks
You might feel tempted to bring a Mint Mace; however, that weapon only works well against single targets. It might get you killed if Fire Ants swam you since the mace consumes too much Stamina.
The Fire Ants also run away if they’re low on health so having poison sources from gear like Broodmother Armor helps in eliminating stragglers and conserving Stamina. Do take your time in clearing out the Fire Ant Hill, though. The Fire Ants respawn in two in-game days, and you can thin them out eventually if you set up a nearby base.
