Traveling through portals is one of the most distinguishing qualities in Inflexion Games’ Nightingale. The series balances the usual Survival game gimmicks with a jaunty fashion sense, but players occasionally hit a snag between realms. If you have issues with the portal not opening in Nightingale, this guide is for you!
Why is Your Portal Not Opening in Nightingale?
If you’ve already reset your portal and have placed your realm cards in Nightingale but it’s not opening, close and reopen your game. Test the portal again by trying to open it, and if the clouds form under the arch, you’ll know it’s working again. Don’t forget, it takes time for it to generate the portal to a new realm.
I had to test this myself but occasionally the game will register that you’ve placed your realm cards, yet it won’t open the portal. This forces you to reset your portal and try to open a new one (which also won’t open) so reset your game to prevent card waste.
Given Nightingale is still working out the game’s issues during this Early Access period, this is a pretty easy issue to resolve. It’s annoying and can waste realm cards, but many are ones you can remake for Paper, Ink, and Essence. Since Paper and Ink are easy to make in bulk, the portal opening issue merely amounts to an inconvenience.
How to Fix Portal Going to An Older Location
This is an issue I spotted as well, where you went from an undesirable realm, such as Provisioner Swamp, to Abeyance Forest. You think you’ve gotten away from the Swamp, so you then set up a portal to Provisioner Forest. However, when you go to reopen your portal thinking you’re going back to Abeyance Forest, you land back in the Swamp.
This is simply a chain of portals you’ve created. It means you’ll perpetually be able to go between the realms as follows:
- Provisioner Swamp to Abeyance Forest
- Abeyance Forest to Provisioner Forest
- Provisioner Forest to Provisioner Swamp
Keeping the portal is more convenient while noting the destination of each realm’s portal if you use the ones you discover instead of a Crude Portal. It even keeps everything you built in these realms. You won’t have to spend cards while running this chain, either; go to the Realm Card Machine and hit ‘Reopen Portal’. Once the portal opens after some time, return to your adventures!
